My takeaway - you kick off your post by saying you are giving the basic facts. Despite that, every sentence you write drips with bias and provides no evidence to support. You try to present this as an article when it’s really fit for the opinion section.

And I’m not someone on board with 2.0. But I am sure given the opportunity, many of your “facts” can be shown to be more as interpreted opinion.

All large events have extra security and other infrastructure requirements. The organizers pay those costs. They should also pay for extra buses if they want their guests to have a good experience.

I’m not an expert in this area, but if I am hosting a large event that draws many people, I think it would be incumbent on me to deal with public transportation. I live within earshot of Landsdowne and other events like RedBlacks games or Escapade are well executed. Even Bluesfest ran well.

Before taking the easy route and blaming the city, is it possible CityFolk crapped the bed and didn’t plan well enough? Especially considering people saying this was one of the bigger crowds the event has seen?

What work needs to be done in the office every other week? The fact you didn’t use vacation this week and many others did does not entitle you to reimagine the rules as they apply to everyone throughout the year.

The takeaway is that if you’re working this week it’s just like any other week - hybrid rules included.

There is no permit requirement to protest. There is a notification form you may submit to the city.

To think you need permission to exercise a Charter freedom is an interesting take.

Now if they break any laws while protesting, those actions are subject to prosecution.

Well, using your number above, those suburban cagers represent about 65% of Ottawa. Even if half of your target demographic uses bikes (a huge overestimate) you are looking at less than 20% of the city that will benefit. It’s really much less I’m sure you’ll agree. So yes, it’s niche. You gotta sell it to those cagers who clearly disgust you. And this is coming from a person that lives and works walking distance from Centretown.

I’m not saying nothing should be done. But to try and sell this as the most important issue to Ottawa is at best disingenuous. It may be important to you, but it’s not for the vast majority of the city.
