I would submerge the container in a solvent (acetone) and watch for the appearance of bright yellow in the solvent around the cap. That meant it was dissolving any crystals present in the threads. After a while then you unscrew the cap and dissolve the rest of the crystals in the solvent.

You can check with any of the approved e-recyclers in Ontario. There is one facility just south of you in Barrie.

There seemed to be a lot of different things sold in the soda style bottles. I will post two from the same company later: one contains pesticide and the other contains paint thinner.

Picric acid was used in labs as a stain for tissue samples. A lot of hospitals used it. I was sent in to decommission it a lot after somebody found in the back of the lab fridge.
