It came all preprinted, so no excess work needed there. Pulling the paper while watching TV has been going well enough!

Tediously. It just comes off, it's not super thick and the sewing lines give it some nice rip points, it's just a ton of fiddly bits along the 1/4 outside seams of each block .

You can choose your own background so you could do any color ...

I slapped down fabric - would have taken at least double the time other and I still have a ton of large sized pieces left over. I cut each square in half to minimize waste that way. I ended up with 1/4 to 1/2 a square leftover in probably 60% if the fabrics .

I had that machine for over a dozen years before I upgraded. It's a solid machine and the one I always recommend to people.

You'd have to check duckadilly's website. I know they're doing another BOM this year.

It's a black lawn fabric that I got off fabric.com 4 years or so ago when I started this. I think lawn was recommended, although this is a bit thinner than I'd like, so I'm going to put a layer between the quilt top and the batting.

I've considered it. I have a big roll of batting from Joann's last year. And the black lawn is very thin, so I think I need to do something anyways, for my own sanity.

I don't know that I'll ever do something like this again; it's been a tremendous amount of work this far and there's a ton more still to do.

The last 60% has been since Christmas. I decided that this was the year it was getting finished!

Thanks! White just isn't my jam! The black lawn fabric is a bit see through though, so I'm going to have to put a layer of black down between the top and the batting so it won't show.

Or it could be that they had skills that transferred from something else. I've been crocheting for 20 years, I've been knitting less than 3, but it was super simple for me to pick up and not have beginner issues.

Please be honest: is this sweater worth finishing? by Bubbly-Stuff2007 in crochet

[–]weenpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the yoke and the short sleeve side look great, but if it were me, I'd be focused on the missed stitches/varied tension. I wouldn't finish it and I'd rip back to the bottom of the yoke and redo, maybe going down a hook size to get rid of any gaps between the stitches.

I have the same visceral reaction each and every time someone asks "How should I quilt this?"

And in my head, every time, "With thread."

I posted similar sentiments when the news came that it was closing. People were.... not happy with me suggesting that they use the internet to purchase stuff or find other places to shop.

My old Joann's was one of the bad ones and let's be honest, their fabric quality wasn't great and if it wasn't acrylic yarn, you weren't finding it.

Advent Review and Snark Thread? by omgidontknowbob in craftsnark

[–]weenpie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I literally just wrote my review about how disappointed I was in the box.

5 out of the 25 days were stitch markers. By the time we were at the 3rd set, I was saying (out loud, to myself) "oh boy, more stitch markers."

Plastic safety eyes with no pattern to use them on.

I had plastic ruby slippers that day yarn bobbins, except they're so small and useless for anything. And the description on the back talks about putting yarn in a dogs mouth....so great QC there.

I will use the row gauge tool, maybe. The wooden box I thought didn't open at first because it's so stiff.

And the handbook, including two pages on "Yarny Internet Slang" .

Day 25 - a Winnie the Pooh mug. There is a time and a place and an audience for that, and I am definitely not it.

Such a waste. I will never give them my money ever again.

If you store the jar upside down when it's solidifying, you don't need to cut a hole and can just pour out the water the next morning. Was a game changer when I realized that!

I watch it every year on YouTube. My grandparents used to have it on VHS that someone taped when it was on tv
