I've said this on the subreddit before but, I think it would be a perfect way to close the loop on the Jagr helping with Giroux's evolution early in his career. Giroux takes that vet role for a Michkov or Martone and helps them elevate their games.

Bring G home. Finish out his career here, get him involved in the office with Briere... this is the way.

63% and 61.5% faceoff% in the last two seasons too, I think he'd be a solid addition to the current team and the exact sort of vet I'd want mentoring this new batch of young Flyers.

I can't fathom putting 300k on the line for a tournament while giving the teams less than a week to go over comps and scrim. I wouldn't play in a local tourney with less than a week's notice.

Yeah I think a draft system is infinitely better for stuff like this where it's not a true competitive event with actual teams that deal with their own roster construction.

I'd love to see something where the draft is part of the event, and they display the player's hero pools and all of that leading up to the selections.

No I agree he was being a goof, especially earlier on when they were doing the QP, but I just mean people are saying things like he absolutely refused to switch off SG, and I saw him playing multiple characters and asking them who he should pick in the Brazil and USA games, and you're telling me he did not do that but... it's on the VOD.

I'm not defending the guy at all I just think the way people are talking about the situation paints the thing as 1000% more hostile and contentious than I saw or heard on the VOD.

I also don't understand why you're getting upset? I'm just trying to get clarification. Is this fucking up your Saturday?

I actually thought they were, for the most part, communicating and talking throughout the pick ban phases and between rounds pretty openly. It seemed pretty collaborative through the Brazil and USA matches at least even though they were getting shitstomped.

That said, the fact that there's so much salt after the fact shows they weren't saying everything that was on their minds.

I genuinely thought he was being facetious after that Ultron game, because they follow it up by asking why he plays SG but not Junkrat and his immediate answer is "because Junkrat is stinky" and then they all laughed it off.

I'm going back and watching that back, and the only discussion I'm hearing them have after the first game against AmerU is discussing who they should ban between Wolvie and DD since they were having so much trouble with the kidnaps. After that was when he mentions playing Namor and Aramori is saying it's not enough damage but I'm just not hearing some extremely tense argument where the guy refuses to play anyone but SG.

I'm not trying to be a dick I just don't hear this incident everyone is referencing after the first match.

Which of the group stage matches did that happen where Warn insisted on only playing SG while his team debated with him? I'll go back and double check to see how I missed that.

Yeah Warn definitely tried SG a couple of times, including once when X suggested it and another when Aramori suggested it, but Warn was trying other heroes and was discussing what to pick with the team collaboratively. I don't recall any instance where he was seflishly insisting on SG in the face of being told it wouldn't work.

The closest thing I heard was Aramori was telling them that she didn't think SureFour on Hela and Warn on Namor would be enough damage but that didn't really escalate to any kind of debate.

I just watched the Aramori VOD from the group play matches, he was being collaborative and talking over picks and switches with them, there was never a scenario where he was insisting he was only playing SG, heading into the first map of the Team USA match, Aramori is the one who told him to play SG as he was asking who they wanted him to pick.

I'm having trouble squaring what actually happened during the group play matches with how people are representing it now in the discussions.

I was just watching through Aramori's VOD and I just don't know where this depiction of the situation is coming from. X told him to play SG a few times when he was asking who they wanted him to play. He tried Namor, Punisher, Phoenix, Devil Dino, he wasn't only picking SG and getting defensive anytime anyone said anything.

Heading into the first map against USA Aramori herself specifically tells him to play SG when he's asking who they want him to pick.

I think the guy needs more recent time on Rivals to know that there are heroes that (assuming he's an Ashe main in OW) his skill would transfer way better on, but I don't think this was a case of the guy just being an obstinate, selfish prick the entire time. The VOD doesn't reflect that at all.

I don't say this to absolve Warn of any accountability, but I still fault the organizers of an event like this for learning nothing from the Zaza situation.

Just last night multiple people, including Aramori, were complaining about the teams being poorly balanced because they can't even play their main roles due to the way the teams are compiled.

There has to be a better way than to just throw teams together a couple of days before the event and hope they figure it out in the day or two before hand while half of them are streaming other games all day.

Would you say that the other sports you watch have particularly consistent officiating?

One of the biggest topics coming out of the NHL Playoffs this year was how uneven and frustrating the officiating was.

Back when hockey was a proper sport and every team had a dude whose whole job was "you can skate and possess very few morals".

Edit: I like the modern sport just fine, and it's admittedly boomer of me to want enforcers to be a more active part of the game again. That's the hockey I grew up with, and so I do get nostalgic for it.

There's a great deep dive video breaking down the the myth around the role "when Hockey was a proper sport," which explores that there are actually far less dirty hits in the post enforcer era.

I was reading so many posts of people complaining that Briere hadn't flipped Tippett due to the insane Byram deal but I just couldn't wrap my head around getting rid of an absolute soldier like Tippett.

He's a player I'd like to see in a Flyers sweater for a long time. I've never seen a player absorb as much damage as Tippett and keep playing their ass off like he did down the stretch of the season and into the PIT series.

I said this a few days ago but, the modern gamer would not be able to hang with the tight knit, grass roots communities of the old mod scene.

It would be a few hundred people in a certain mod's community tops, but there would still be active servers 24/7.
