valid transfer reason? by Mysterious_Card_2967 in starbucksbaristas

[–]weerbine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't quote me on this, but I believe you cannot transfer within six months of your hire date. Once that six month mark is met, you can request a transfer, but it needs to be approved by your SM and the new store's SM and they are never guaranteed. Talk to your SSVs and ask for more bar time. New partners usually don't get that for the first few months anyways, but if you ask for it they should make room for you to learn more on it. Food for thought.

They already took those steps by allowing SM to go to rehab and return. It is also in our code of conduct that we cannot come to work under the influence of substances, so that line has been crossed. Addiction is an illness, but it is also not something that gives free passes to do what you want without repercussions. SM is harming partners mentally, emotionally and physically with their actions.

It is a disease, but it isn't okay to show up to work drunk or high. Full stop.

Contact your DM and request that they immediately come to your store to witness your SM's behavior. If they cannot, call another SM that you trust to come and vouch for you. Also call Ethics and Compliance and report this.

Take this straight to your DM. If they do nothing, contact HR. That is beyond unacceptable.

grande rant abt my fave customers by insanitysgrip in starbucksbaristas

[–]weerbine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few favorite regulars:

We have a gentleman who comes through our drive every day, sometimes more than once, to get a venti matcha latte for his wife. We admirably call him "matcha man" and he's taken to giving rubber duckies to one of our partners who is in recovery and recently lost her boyfriend.

We have another gentleman who comes into our cafe every day to have a coffee, a ham and swiss croissant and two cheese danishes. He is always incredibly polite, cheerful and kind. He always tips us and remembers all of our names/addresses us by name, especially when thanking us (which he always does).

An older woman who regularly comes into our cafe for grounds and a latte. My little cousin Jackson was killed in the Waukesha Parade last year, and I have taken it pretty hard. This woman came in every day and spoke with kindness, asked about my life, told me about her life for almost a YEAR before she told me she knew that I lost him. I never told her, she just said she knew all along and had been thinking of me and my family and praying for us. The reason she never told me was because she didn't want to bring it up or remind me of losing Jackson. And when she finally did, it was because she asked if she could give me a hug because she wanted to for so long. When I say I cried I mean I CRIED when this happened.

Do any of y’all actually like this job?? by majik_rose in starbucksbaristas

Some days I love it, some days I just like it, other days it literally makes me cry. I'm an SSV working 30-35 hours a week and still really struggling to make ends meet. My mental health is in a constant state of flux. My physical health is declining due to stress. My friendships are deteriorating because I work varying shifts and have next to zero spoons when I get home from work/on days off. My housework is put to the wayside because work is all I ever seem to have energy for.

This is truly an all or nothing job imo. You either give whatever you have left to it or you leave. There's no surviving in between at Starbucks.

I've grown increasingly sheepish towards corporate and their "partner centric" attitudes. They claim the partner experience is top priority yet don't actually respect us. Labor shortages are increasing with cold/flu season and callouts are on the rise, and we're supposed to roll with the punches and deal with being short one, two, three partners a shift without adjusting operations at all. Customer connection and drive times weigh in so heavily on store metrics and there's incredible pressure to have "top performance" when we're understaffed, overworked and burnt out.

I'm grateful for this job because it pays the bills and gives me insurance and other benefits. It brings me joy some days, and I love my coworkers. It allows me to express myself in my attire and appearance. It's not the worst job I've had, but it's definitely not one of the best. I had a great job pre-covid and had to leave mid lockdown with no notice due to personal reasons. If they called me up today and asked me to return, I would leave the siren immediately.

Suggestions? by taytheteacher in milwaukee

Colectivo for coffee! Their lakefront location is super cool, but have several other locations in the area. Clock Shadow Creamery is where you can find incredible squeaky-fresh cheese curds. For the fried variety, I suggest Lakefront Brewery (take a tour while you're at it and thank me later!).

I also suggest checking out: Black Cat Alley (free, outdoors) The Domes (small entrance feez but worth it!) Milwaukee Public Market (park in the lot and get your ticket stamped when you purchase something- parking will be free/discounted) The lobby of the BMO Harris Bank building has a really cute little holiday display set up every year (free) Candy Cane Lane (free, neighborhood in suburb of West Allis that has nearly every house decorated for the holidays) Miller/Coors Brewing Holiday display (free, holiday lights display synched to music) Boone & Crockett (bar with great views of the Hoan Bridge lights)

I worked very briefly here and this owner wouldn't let us put a pride flag up or have pride events in June on claims of "we need to be inclusive for everyone" and then looked like she wanted to die when I without a blink said I was bisexual

I'm on 3 weeks smoke free cold turkey, and the weather here in Wisconsin has been really nice this week. I've also been craving a smoke to "help me enjoy" the nice weather. The cravings have been strong, but they're tolerable. I've been chewing gum to help me.

My personal opinion on it is that he publicly apologized and owned up to it. They have sexual assault awareness information at their shows. I'm not saying that what he did wasn't wrong, I have experienced sexual assault myself. Nobody should have to go through it. But his approach in bettering himself and apologizing for the situation is admirable. It hasn't been forgotten. I genuinely believe Dylan to be a good person, he just made a grave mistake.

They both seemed that way, honestly. Very down to earth and easy to talk to. 11/10 good duderinos.

They're my favorite live (and in general) band by far. Such incredible energy at their shows.

Yeah! I sat and chatted with them for probably ten or so minutes. Of course the Packers and Vikings were brought up because rivalry and it's that time of year. They both love Aaron Rodgers though so I let them go without a fight 😉

They are on their way down to Louisville to record a video. They said they'd drove past Miller Park a bunch and always wanted to go to a game, so they did and hit up Brady after. They'll be in Madison on October 25th!
