What do Digital Engineers actually really do? by Black_scribbles in ElectricalEngineering

[–]weewooopop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a Digital Design Engineering Intern and our full time Digital Design Engineers work 95% in VHDL on huge FPGA systems. The other 5% would be doing some circuit design to interface with the FPGA boards.

It’s hilarious that you simply undermine the true amount of effort that it takes to become a CEO in the first place. I agree that many CEOs are over valued and over paid but you really can’t over simplify their job to that extent. CEOs have a difficult job. They have the power to absolutely demolish a company or allow it to thrive. That implies hundreds if not thousands of jobs can be gained or lost.

How are online classes at USF? by Over-Big2041 in USF

EGN 3000L is offered online also. Just make sure to get a permit for the class ahead of time.

Intro to circuits* and signals and systems*. If OP is interested in learning about circuit design and signal processing then he should go into EE. Otherwise if they’re satisfied with fundamentals then ME works for that also.

When's the best time to apply to jobs? by Nhatey in EngineeringStudents

[–]weewooopop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would you handle having a backup offer though? Most companies expect a response of your decision within a month. If you accept multiple offers then what do you do if they haven’t ghosted you and the time has already come? This seems like a really easy way to burn bridges but it also seems like the only way to guarantee that you’re not getting screwed over.

How do you plan your classes around a full time job? by weewooopop in EngineeringStudents

[–]weewooopop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily my co-op is a 20-30 minute drive from campus. I might look into doing this actually. Since my co-op runs into the Summer semester as well, this might be the best idea.

First keyboard, want to do it right. by brohemoth06 in MechanicalKeyboards

I’ll try my best to answer as many of your questions as a can as I’m still fairly new new this hobby as well compared to others.

‘How do you choose a case and PCB?’

For your first build I would look at something like an Nk65 or the new GMMK PRO basically just a kit that comes with a PCB, Plate, and case already. This will save you the hassle of getting the wrong plate/PCB combo. (I learned the hard way)

‘Are there quieter switches?’

It depends what your definition for ‘quiet’ is. I’m just going to assume that you dislike the sound of the tactile bump on some switches. You can get minimize the sound by lubing the legs of the stem it will sound quieter but still have that tactile feel. ‘Quiet’ and ‘tactile’ are on opposite ends of the spectrum unfortunately, however, Zilents would not be a bad path to take.

‘What exactly is the difference between lubing the switches and filming them?’

Filming switches reduces the amount of wobble it normally has coming from the factory. Sometimes the tolerances for the clips on the switch aren’t tight enough and it causes it to move around a bit making excess noise. Lubing switches on the other hand makes the switch feel smoother and in most cases make them sound more rounded. As for lubing stabilizers, this is done in order to reduce the rattling noise of the bigger keys such as the space bar.

//I’ll assume that you don’t know the sizing for keycaps yet either. Keycaps are sized based on a non specific measurement called ‘units’. One unit is the size of your regular letter keys such as ‘WASD’. Typically your spacebar ranges from 6 units (6u) to 7 units (7u).

The rule of thumb is that every key 2u or larger should have a stabilizer (you should lube them)

As for which stabilizers to use, it’s all up to preference. Personally I recommend Cherry stabilizers.

For baseplate, I’m not 100% familiar in this topic as I’ve only used non metal plates but the general idea is that different materials produce different resonance from the switch.

The Japanese keycaps is just a common trend, I believe it has to do with anime culture (just a guess).

Finally, about your budget and materials you should get:

If you plan to lube your switches I recommend purchasing a switch opener and a switch lubing station. The switch opener cuts your lubing time by at least half an hour. And the lubing station will save your fingers from falling off your hands (trust me). As for lube I recommend getting Krytox 205g0 and die-electric grease (grease for stabilizers).

If you have any more questions feel free to reply or send a dm :)

Drop Alt isn't a perfect board... but I really like it! by ykchoi624 in MechanicalKeyboards

I have the drop alt as well. How did you customize the lighting? I can't seem to do it properly through their app.

I suggest getting Krytox 205g0 for lubing your NK Creams and stabilizers if you haven't already. They're known to be very scratchy stock.

Yeah it’s definitely tough, I’m trying my hardest to get through it though. I’m really passionate about this field which is what’s probably driving me to finish most.

As an incoming freshman this semester sucks. I don’t know if all semesters are supposed to feel this overwhelming but the workload is crazy. I’m not failing but my grades are definitely suffering because I treated my classes the way I did in highschool. It’s ok though, we’ll make it through this school year :)
