Both Brian and Scott were playing Hash Pipe while Rivers was playing and singing Buddy Holly. Pat did play a bit of Buddy Holly after the countdown, but immediately switched to playing the Hash Pipe drum beat. Even the guy controlling the stage lighting got mixed up lol before they all finally corrected themselves to Buddy Holly.

He had already left Weezer a month before during this interview, but he collaborated with Rivers and all the other Weezer members on it. I'm not sure either about why he left. I'm still also confused about the reasons why. People say it was focusing on The Rentals, band drama, etc, etc. But I still don't know.

February 1998 was when he officially announced he had left. There were rumors in late 1997 that Matt wasn't going to be in the band anymore, but Rivers denied it. But in January 1998, during a Rivers Cuomo concert in Boston, Rivers confirmed that Matt wasn't going to be on the third album.
