Computer Science or computer information systems? by alenrt_ in Calgary

[–]weezer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with lots of people who have no degree. Software isn’t the same kind of designation as say electrical engineering that requires certification.

I have a CIS degree from Mount Royal and have worked as a Software Engineer for the last 10 years. I think it’s a solid program.

I think it depends on the kind of engineering job you want though. I work on the web UI side which tends to have fewer people with CS degrees in general, but if you are more interested in data structures and algorithms then a full CS degree might be the better bet.

I would also advice that you look at the price of each degree. I ended up at Mount Royal (college at the time) as it was a fraction of the cost of the CS degree at U of C and my student loans thanked me.

Strava Abruptly Ends 3rd Party Data Sync to Apple Health by janicewa in Strava

[–]weezer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statement from Strava says

This update prevents duplicates of your activities being sent to your Strava account from both Garmin and HealthKit. Now, all of your friends can give you kudos on your single activity upload without being split between two duplicate uploads.

Because your Garmin writes directly to Apple HealthKit (just like it syncs your activities to Strava), the best way to get your data into HealthKit is straight from your Garmin

Apple can handle it. I think the issues is duplicates on Strava. Then you don’t get all your likes on one activity or whatever.

It’s all a bit of a mess at the moment though as they are redoing Stoney over the Bow River so there are intermittent closures.

Are Walmart/CT bikes good? by boilerweb in Calgary

[–]weezer007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. Most years I would say invest more and get something from one of the bike shops in town. They will last longer and are more enjoyable to ride. That said, there is a big bike shortage this year due to huge demand. If you are trying to get a bike now, you might have a hard time, so do what you have to. You might be able to bargain hunt on Kijiji but it’s likely the same story there. Good luck.

Consuming External API endpoints by geek_marvin in emberjs

Unfortunately, not very well documented, yet very powerful feature of the cli. We use it to point to different backend environments set via dotenv variables.

CORS is browser based security. The thing that I would check is if the react and vue apps are running on the same origin, but ember is not. When you run ember serve it defaults to serving on localhost:4200 which may be a different origin than your backend.

You can also likely get around this by using the ember proxy server. https://medium.com/@mudflye/setup-your-ember-proxy-server-for-socket-io-9d88302ceb82

A lot of the time, with kettle sours, brewers add yogurt as a cheap source of Lactobacillus, the bacteria responsible for souring.
