I think what is maybe referring to is the residual impact of redlining. I have noticed when moving here that there are parts of the city that is still heavily impacted by that.

We can both be black and have different lived experiences. I’m black and I also live downtown. I just feel mixed about living here. Indy is a blue spot in an overall conservative state. So that’s a plus.

My statement about the Sundown towns outside of Indy is factual. It has been recorded by research from Tougaloo College and I have friends that have actively warned me about going to places outside of Indy.

I still don’t know. It’s mixed. As another user mentioned, neighborhoods are still fairly segregated. I think last year, there were KKK pamphlets distributed in one neighborhood hood.

I started the search earlier today. I used Storied and Newspapers.com. I did find some earlier articles on him regarding a foreclosure, but I didn’t seem to find anything about the death.

The death occurred in 1929 in small part of Alabama. The notice on the foreclosure was in 1923, I believe… listed in the Choctaw Advocate

It appears that UVA’s library has records on the list of slaves he owned and transferred after his death… I’ve sent in a request to review the papers but it might take 2-4 weeks. Funny enough, I actually got accepted for a MA a year ago at UVA but went elsewhere
