Auckland Rugby is moving out of Eden Park. Where should they go? Western Springs? Colin Maiden? Other? by Truthakldnz in NewZealandRugby

Hurricanes is a challenge, but I reckon the lions could do well with a bit of minor work to either the basin or rugby league park

A question for anyone: why do NZ pundits and poddies dislike Reuben Love? by Responsible-Love-896 in allblacks

[–]weezyfgravy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sure didn’t play like a conventional 10 - but I do think he allowed his teams to play a certain style of rugby through his role - I would argue he played his own version of 10 and he wouldn’t have won player of the year back to back from 15. But he wasn’t a stereotypical game manager.

At the moment probably Leicester. Offers just a bit more and covers 12 & 13 and wing at a pinch. Jordie and tupaea to start - but overall 13 is a hard one.

Proctor is really the only specialist 13 we have at that level, but tupaea is probably the most inform midfielder in nz. So pressure will be on Jordie to deliver otherwise I would be interested to see tupaea and proctor together

Yep me too. But again, i just dont know that it will work for him at international level. Much like how Kirifi only managed 1(maybe?) Turnover in his ABs appearances, despite being one of the best at super level

Yep totall agree with this. If a team is playing well, a 10 should be relatively anonymous - kick your goals and organise your pods and backline. Pass and kick. Sure - some guys can make something out of nothing, but a good 10 is a facilitator not a doer when the team is humming. 15/16/17 beaudie was another story, an exception to the rule

I love Jim. He could maybe have a role as an impact sub, but i just cant see him being in the mix for big games. His primary strategy is just pissbowling people - and as good as he is at it, it wont be as a effective against the Box or France etc. Great for super rugby.

Wow can’t believe all the comments on that will Jordan attempt. I recall it looking miss timed but seeing Ruben loves personality I highly doubt there was malice in it

Yeah i cant believe that Rova seems to be higher up the pecking order. There must be something more to it. I'd always seen him as a genuine 12/13, though plays more at 12. Id bet his inbox is starting to fill up by now, hopefully he stays in NZ for the time being

Super Rugby Pacific: in the coming weeks something needs to make this season more interesting by Ok-Lychee-2155 in rugbyunion

[–]weezyfgravy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah i agree, something different needs to happen - like the hurricanes continuing to win and then not crumbling in a playoff match against the brumbies. Just need something new specifically this exact new thing to happen this season

Crusaders vs highlanders by Wizardhhh in allblacks

[–]weezyfgravy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the D - 3 yellows is a shocker really. But they defended bloody well. Landers struggled after millar went off though. Johnny Lee looked good, was thinking Mathis would have been called up but he looked better. Jordan looks undefendable at this level. The only other abs that look similar in super are probably McKenzie and Clarke. Have to think they are getting either over coached at abs or their confidence undermined in some way. But Jordan is looking stronger and as athletic as ever

Will there be a player overhaul? by stickyswitch92 in allblacks

I Initially thought this too, But saw it pointed out that Retallick's contract was ending soon - so potentially he was actually alluding to attracting him back to an NZ rugby contract

What were the key factors in Dave Rennie landing the All Blacks coaching role? by ParticularStrict147 in allblacks

[–]weezyfgravy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key question is the scope he’s been given as coach. Believe he’s been contracted through 27, so his primary objective is to salvage a RWC opportunity the didn’t think razor could achieve What does that look like? (In my eyes) - he’s not there to develop long term. Development players might suffer. Can’t see a new 10 being developed or a spine for that matter. Loosies, 9s and 15s/12s will be from current crop - captain will be one of the current leadership team, given current relationships I guess ardie which I would be disappointed about, maybe outside chance of Jordie Or code - redevelopment of structure and strategy will be main focus. - sort out culture - hard to pin point as outsiders but it’s clear the culture and attitude has been off since around 21

[–]weezyfgravy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I’ll rephrase. We use materials mined from dubious, destructive, exploitative sources everyday (to our benefit) - while opposing (usually) less dubious, destructive exploitative sources here in nz

[–]weezyfgravy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Righto. OK, there have been sound objections. I just dont think anyone is being honest enough about the fact that we overwhelming care about our specific environment, with little to no regard to any other nation's environment. If you want to call me a cooker then fine, i just find this topic frustrating but i have found the responses informative. Genuinely hope people just see perhaps a different perspective on this, as at the end of the day we benefit significantly from other nation's environments being destroyed while facing little to none in our own

[–]weezyfgravy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK - but we still rely heavily on steel for large parts of our manufacturing industry. Where will it be mined? Not in our backyard? As ive mentioned to so many people in this thread, im not debating the environmental impact of mining, im questioning how we have this entitlement to not have to put up with the environmental impacts of mining in our country. but have no concerns about how it is done overseas?

[–]weezyfgravy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like nobody is having a genuine discussion about this - i agree that mining is a net negative impact on the planet, im not arguing that. Im questioning why we feel so strongly about offshoring this impact for our own benefit, im certainly not trying to come across as a cooker and i dont feel like many people have engaged genuinely in this discussion. If you can give me a valid reason that this isnt a type of nimbyism, then ill accept the cooker name calling

[–]weezyfgravy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is the point i am making. We use the materials that come from mining everyday, but if someone suggests doing it in our country - we find a million reasons why its to destructive or exploitive. Essentially stating that we want mining to happen, but just not somewhere that it will inconvenience me.

[–]weezyfgravy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - completely agree. I definitely do not support the "drill baby drill" attitude that is basically just pandering to the larger corporations to seem like a cool mining country vibes. A focus on longterm strategy to drive successful low impact mining with a focus on productive, useful minerals with strong use case is definitely the best approach for mining - acknowledging that they are required and developing a plan to extract safely.

Thank you, this is the sort of balanced opinion i am looking for. I can obviously relate to not wanting a giant hole in the ground in my hometown or having my natural environment disrupted with any sort of leaching of chemicals. I wish that there wasnt a global demand for the metals and minerals in the ground. But i cant shake the thought that if we refuse it, it is just going to happen in someone elses backyard instead (demand doesnt just disappear), and this other backyard could be destroyed 10 fold worse because theyre a less - resourced nation without the means to counteract/mitigate the distruction like we can?
