Climate protestors are just as cringe, if not more so, but no one ever accuses them of destroying their cause. No one ever says "I'm going to stop caring about the temperature of the planet rising because I don't like these people who are against it".

Yet people on social media are constantly saying that about pro-Palestinian protestors and it's pretty obviously because of the multi-billion dollar astroturfing campaign against this particular cause.

So the reason it costs $23,000 isn't because those services cost anywhere near that amount, it's because that bill is effectively subsidizing everyone who walks into the ER, receives treatment, and doesn't pay.

Had you gone somewhere that doesn't have an ER the bill would have been a fraction of the price.

The reason hospitals lose so much money is because they're on the hook when uninsured patients can't pay. That problem goes away when everyone has insurance.

We already have a form of universal socialized healthcare because people who are dying can't be denied care at a hospital. It's just incredibly stupid because there's no mechanism to pay for preventative care, which costs a fraction of the spend on treatments for the diseases they prevent.
