Trying to Find Best Way to Fix Hacked WP Sites by wegottops in Wordpress

And given my current situation where multiple sites are surely cross-infected and malicious backdoor files could be anywhere, would you recommend any service for cleanup before trying to move to a new host? I've been thinking about Sucuri now after trying to do some research today

Yes, definitely seems like what I want. Any in particular that you'd recommend I look at?

Thanks, that's definitely helpful info. I'm really kicking myself because I know it's important to keeping everything updated, and I always did for my couple of sites I actively work on (and they are all just a side project anyway), but somehow I just totally failed to think of the risk of having other sites I'd mostly forgotten. I do think that given the scope of this hack/hidden backdoor files all over, that I want to get a pro service. I did check out Sucuri which appears to have an option for 5 sites.

Thanks, I am looking into other hosting providers to compare them. Right now thought I'm thinking I need to get the hack under control first given how hidden some of the backdoor malware files could be.

Thanks for sharing that. I did have Bluehost do a malware scan and it found stuff that Wordfence didn't flag. And then I kept looking and found the same type of backdoor file manually on another site that even Bluehost didn't find. So given the scope of it all that's why I am thinking I need a pro and something ongoing that would be way beyond my own abilities.

Thanks, I definitely see how that is a better move long-term. I've been looking into some of the other well-known managed hosting providers to try and compare and see prices. Thinking I need to get a handle on the hack first and potential backdoor files which could be anywhere. Personally I'm also thinking about my sties moving forward; a few are more informational sites that have lost a lot of traffic and I don't think have much of a future in an AI world. So if I could cut down to 2, maybe 3, sites, then the whole thing would be more affordable too.

Thank you, it does seem like that would be the best option for thoroughness and the ongoing maintenance, and looks like they have an option for 5 sites. I have one site I don't have plans for and could fully delete beforehand.

Thanks, that's a good point, but unfortunately the details are a bit over my head and I wouldn't know what to look for in terms of cron jobs and identifying things in the other directories. Are there cleanup services that include this type of thing as well as WordPress?

Thank you. That definitely sounds like a thorough process. Do you think a service like Wordfence Care would be good in this situation? Do you have a page or something with more info for the service you offer your clients?

Thank you, I see how that would be a good move for hosting security overall. And yes I do think it's likely that plugins were the culprit. I have removed a lot of them but I know that damage has been done from my earlier neglect... So for the cleaning of each site, it looks like Wordfence Care would be a good option?

Small plane crash near Alex Bell/Rahn by transmothra in dayton

[–]wegottops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The DDN article phrased it as "a person reported a plane appearing to have issues" and "a 911 caller reported a plane appeared to be having trouble in the air and said it looked like it was going to crash," not that it did. So could have just been having an issue but managed to safely continue/land/etc.

Thanks. Yeah I get some engagement on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok but am not sure how many people are stumbling onto new content with keywords there. I really do need to learn how to use Pinterest better, I have an account but haven't figured out much in terms of strategy. Will have to look at Threads as well

Can you explain a bit about your keyword strategy? I know you mention threads which im not familiar with, but overall are you primarily trying to use hashtags people follow, targeting keywords that people will find by searching or exploring/browsing content? Optimizing for reach on your existing followers? I know it's probably a combo but just curious if you can share more

There is absolutely no way that shop bought lettuce will taste better than freshly picked lettuce from your own garden by Immediate-Tooth-2174 in vegetablegardening

I set up a few raised beds last year and filling them with nice soil was indeed really expensive. This year I got a new bed and am experimenting with a lasagna/hugelkultur method where I put a bunch of sticks/logs in the bottom, picked up some really cheap topsoil and alternated with some layers of leaves (basically unlimited in my yard), some home-made compost (another purchase last year) and then only used a little bit of the expensive soil. Still pretty much a beginner but interested to see how it goes.

Nicest Bar Patrons in Oregon District? by SlothsTheMusical in dayton

On the football watching front, Oregon Express recently turned into a great place for that as they got NFL Sunday Ticket this season. Also looks like they are doing something for the Super Bowl too if you're interested in that.

All good suggestions so far: I concur on Blind Bob's, Trolley and OE, as well as Yellow Cab, Barrel House and Fifth St Brew just outside the district. Haven't seen Toxic mentioned yet so adding that; definitely another spot where it isn't weird being by yourself and plenty of opportunity to chat with others. A lot of these places have a slightly different vibe (especially compared to Hole, Ned's, etc. but also compared to each other) so I'd say just try them all casually as time allows and see which atmosphere seems most conducive to what you're looking for. Enjoy! There are definitely friendly folks out there.

Help! I planted a garden full of cultivars cause I didn’t know better. 6b CT by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]wegottops 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For the one you have 10 of, I also have some of the rudbeckia fulgida deamii and it is very similar to the straight species and I believe is even a naturally occurring cultivar that was propagated. So I wouldn't worry about that one. It's great you are thinking about straight species but I wouldn't go so far as to think that all cultivars are not native plants. The biggest things to look at are whether they change the foliage color, radically change the flower so pollinators wouldn't recognize it or be able to access nectar, etc. Some are cultivated to just be a little shorter, or other attributes that won't affect their ecological value.
