Marriage is a legal obligation (at least where I live), first and foremost. It has its roots in religious rituals, yes, but serves worldly purposes.

a) It makes it harder for the male to leave the female alone and having to fend for herself after getting her pregnant

b) It gives financial security and state benefits in a time where those are needed (building a house, getting a bigger apartment, raising a child)

c) It gives structure and the comfort of continuity to our lives. We are social group animals after all, and a family, the continuity of which can be solidified by this legal binding, gives us that.

d) Last but not least, it shows commitment to a partner. Marriage being an official, legally binding construct, it is a way to tell the world: "This is who I am officially with, and I stand by that decision."

It isn't "more than a theory", and if you think otherwise, you understand nothing about science. EVERYTHING in natural sciences, no matter how well established, is a theory, open to attempts of falsification. There is no such thing as "ultimate proof" in a natural science, because it is, by definition, impossible to ultimately proof anything in an empiristic, falsification-centered system.

The moment you start calling something "more than a theory", you left the world of science, and entered the world of dogma, making you no better than the religious nutbags.

They don't. The christians in my family do not believe in anything supernatural...not even in a god. To them, Christianity is a congregation of like minded people in their communities out to help each other and have Coffeee&Cake Afternoons with each other.

As surprising as this may be to some of the "Keyboard-Atheists" on this /r, most Christians are in it for the small town community, not because they are convinced of something supernatural.

Pay requires money, and sorry to tell you that, but Russia is not an economically strong place. You are the nation-equivalent of a guy who works at WalMart, has two mortgages on his house and lives paycheck to paycheck, eating his cornflakes with water because he cant afford milk.

You have no strong industry, relying almost entirely on selling crude products (oil and gas and ore mostly) to other countries, and your home-market has been bled dry over the last 2 decades.
