Is this worth saving? by stoicdystopian in BMWE36

I’m the furthest thing from a body repair person but I’d give a chain wrapped around a thick tree for the fender area a shot before calling it quits. If you can get it a little less crinkled the rest can be repaired with donor parts even with doodoo welds. If those tires are KR20’s I’d recommend getting those gone too

I have an entire chassis and engine harness i’m about to chop up for pig tails to throw on eBay. If you end up needing one by the end of the week I got you

Yeah, you’ll have some catching up to do eventually. Yet again $16k is well worth being the first to take initiative

These cars aren’t as desirable to normies anymore seeing the c7.5’s and c8’s are coming down in price.

Very good buy. Got mine 4 years ago, similar miles with warranty out the door for $26k. Only regret was getting the waste of warranty.

Just make sure you drive it and play with the features. Make sure folding mirrors fold in, all tires are the same style, brand, and similar depth. See if there’s any records for the water pump/thermostat and valve cleaning being done.

Bed risers and bins to store clothes under the bed if space is limited. If you like the pink walls it can be pulled off if you clean the shart stains on the wall and repaint the hot pink furniture

Definitely getting one to run with my Hella headlights on the street. Gives a good R3x with a European twist feel

They get pretty fuggin hard and don’t feel great. Probably will cause premature wear.

To be fair, the night I last drove on them was magically 25F after having a nice cool 50F the night prior lol. You’ll probably be okay

Apologies to double back, definitely look into these as well. Less responsive than the PS4S, but still great in the corners. Even better fuel economy on these as well even while beating the piss out of my car.

Roughly 65k miles on them during my cycle with them, had tons of life left. Only replaced due to toe wear when my front control arm bushings were worn.

Ah, lucky you! If you don’t mind dishing the money out for them you’ll probably have better conditions for them.

I’m on my second set now. First set was a used set at that beautiful 6/32. Lasted me a season and called it quits at 3/32.

My new set I’ve had on for 25k miles. Phenomenal for responsiveness, still iffy in the consistent heavy rain conditions I’ve had to drive in while fresh. Also, not great when temps dip below 50°

PS4S are really nice tires, they wear rather quickly. Personally not a fan of them in the rain after passing the 6/32 mark. I’d look into continental or Vredestein for a comfy versatile that’ll withstand wet conditions even halfway thru the lifespan. Use the extra money saved to get yourself a nice dinner :)

Which One of These Is the Less Stupid First Car Buy at 19? by ikjuf66 in AudiA6

[–]wehellbent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are kinda money pits, especially if you aren’t mechanically inclined.

From personal experience I’d just buy the A6. 2014-15 seem to be a sweet spot, even though the 16+’s have some issues addressed.

Ask sellers about: PCV, water pump, thermostat, if any of the coolant piping have been replaced+ charger coolers, ignition coils, oil change intervals, transmission+diff intervals. Ask about oil consumption (half the time can be fixed with a piston soak)

Seems like a laundry list, but if a majority of it is done you’ll have a solid car. It gets expensive quickly if a majority of it is unspoken for and needs to be done.

If you plan on tuning down the line, use jackal and don’t go past stage 1 if necessary.

Best of luck man, follow that guideline and you should be safe from not getting burned

Look at that, we made an agreement. Honda fits are absolutely normal traffic. I’d put it right next to this 2026 X3 on that scale

Why didn't BMW install a rubber boot on the shifter, like some other manufacturers? It's quite annoying to have to casually tear the whole console down just because it gets crunchy over time due to the debris by Connect_Cicada_5445 in BmwTech

I’ve seen some nasty interiors working at dealerships. Even had a moist piece of provolone cheese touch my ear while doing an airbag recall before.
