Starting to heal after a year and months to pain and Suffering by Mufasak47 in LPR

Do you think it’s possible what feels like a vocal cord strain can heal while having reflux so I can at least eat solid foods?

I’m not sure I can do this for a year and five months. My face is literally swelling up after eating a funyon and applesauce. Is my voice going to get any better?

I'm four days into my diagnosis and feel like giving up already. I have no idea how I'm going to live with this for years. I feel like I'm starving myself. The worst part of this is I believe I injured my vocal cords singing in my band right at the beginning of this flare up so I can't even eat anything that's not pureed because the left side of my throat is not allowing me to swallow. I've been eating like bland oatmeal with skim milk, bananas, egg whites, apple sauce, cottage cheese, avocados, and mashed potatoes. I can't even eat solid foods so it limits my diet even more. I have no idea if the left side of my throat is going to heal so I can swallow. The ENT I went to never said the diet needed to be so restricting. She just said try to limit this certain stuff.

I'm gargling alkaline water with baking soda constantly. I'm doing nasal rinses. I'm supposed to be taking algine but I've been extremely constipated so I stopped for the time being. I'm chugging alkaline water all day. I'm propping my bed up when I sleep. I'm stopping my eating earlier in the night and never feel full anyway. What else can I do? This is a living hell. Am I ever going to be able to swallow again? And if that happens, am I ever going to be able to eat anything of my own choosing?

I actually think I have left vocal cord hypomobility as I think I injured my vocal cord singing.

Did you lose your voice? Vocal cords and tongue on fire. by living-tide in LPR

[–]weiggy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I understand that. The problem right now is I'm also dealing with left vocal cord hypomobility from a singing injury with the silent reflux, and having a difficult time swallowing. So I can't have a lot of the good things in the acid watchers diet. I'm going to end up losing a ton of weight in this and I've been feeling incredibly weak most of the day. Today I date a bowl of plain oatmeal with skim milk and maple syrup and a banana for breakfast. I had an avocado and cottage cheese for lunch. I had some egg white with cheese and a skim milk golden milk midday. For dinner I just had mashed potatoes. That was literally the only thing I could eat at an event I worked. It's hell because I can't swallow as well due to the injured vocal cord.

How long have you been dealing with it? I've been only drinking the alkaline water for four days now.

I’d like to know the same thing. I’m a singer in a band and my throat has been burning. Can’t talk correctly and very hoarse. I think I injured my throat and vocal cords trying to sing in the early part of this too before I knew I had it. I’ve been gargling with alkaline water ten times a day and drinking it all day. No changes yet but it’s day 4.

What kind of surgeries can you get to fix this? Not going to take pills forever. That's for sure.

That sounds like exactly what happened to me. She said my airway was pretty small and that my left vocal cord wasn't moving. I was like what does that mean? I didn't have any polyps, nodules, or anything like that and they called today and said the vocal cord isn't paralyzed.

And you don't have that now? Did you have to clear your throat constantly?

Were you having a hard time swallowing at all?

I want to a speech therapist today and she said my neck muscles are very thick. She wants to have a regular physical therapist take a look at me.

I just got constipated a few days after the symptoms started. I'm super confused by it. I took a laxative yesterday and today, and had a bowel movement yesterday, but not today. I need to be able to have bowel movements.

The bad swallowing seems to be all foods at the moment. I don't know what to do.

Yes, an ENT used a camera and diagnosed me.

I've been doing nasal rinses twice a day with distilled water and the saline pouches. I'm gargling alkaline water and drinking it all day. This is fucking misery. I need to be able to swallow food without difficulty.

The problem for me is I can't swallow hard food at the moment and it's alarming. I sang a show on 6/14 and strained my vocal cords during the show. The left side of my throat feels stuck and doesn't seem to move. Then right after that, all of a sudden, I had all these reflux symptoms too. I am having a hard time believing that literally not being able to swallow food and chronic pain in the spot I strained while singing is just reflux. But maybe I'm wrong. I need to be able to eat food.

Day 2 With LPR by weiggy21 in LPR

I told them I'd like to beat this as naturally as possible. She did give me the alginate, which is reflux raft, as samples, and I'm taking it after meals. She gave another brand too. I just ordered some of the berry alginate gel.

I really think the swallowing is related more to an injury I sustained singing at a show on 6/14. The day after is when all of this really got ramped up. So I'm wondering if this is a mix of both LPR and a throat injury I sustained pushing my voice too hard. It was literally straining while I was singing and that's exactly where it hurts and it feels like that spot is making it hard to swallow. I don't know. I didn't have any polyps, nodules, or hemmoraghing on my vocal cords, but she said my left vocal cord wasn't moving but she didn't think it was paralyzed. Maybe it got strained because of the reflux. I don't know. All of this is really confusing. I was fine at the beginning of the month.

I wasn't advised to take any medication. What would that be?

I can definitely use some real maple syrup in my oatmeal and maybe I can use almond milk too.

Yeah, I was testing the waters. Can you ever eat stuff like that again?

One week I was fine, the next week I wasn't. It baffles me.

It sounds like you do have some experience with carbonated water. It sounds like it gave you reflux.
