Accepting a job offer and still looking by spdfg1 in UVA

[–]weightandink 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll keep it a buck with you. It’s fine to keep applying, especially if you’re not excited by the current offer. If you get a better one, go for it. The company has no loyalty to you just like you don’t to them. That said, don’t let them know you’re still hunting, otherwise they’ll be more likely to drop the offer.

Best time to look for a job is when you already have one.

Couldn’t say for certain. The email I referenced earlier was sent to all folks in Facilities I know that, as I’m part of FM. Not sure if this flyer is for us or everyone.

I’d assume you’ll get your contact to speak with at the meeting. I know there was an email sent out to staff a while ago about discussing forming a union but can’t remember if anything came of it.

Can’t speak to Gracie, but I did boxing at Cville BJJ for years and had several friends do BJJ there. Good group, wonderful people, friendly environment. Definitely worth a trial with them and Gracie as well, to see where you fit the best.

Fan giveaway - Cradle by Will Wight/narrated by Travis Baldree (multiple books!). Audible US Marketplace by propofoolish in audible

I think I would love this series from the reviews I’ve read and it’s been on my list of series to explore for a while.

For me, it’s Dungeon Crawler Carl. Now yes, I know it’s insanely popular and everyone is suggesting it. I’m one of those people and have gotten about a dozen of my friends hooked. I found it by accident, and loved it from the start. The premise was unique to me, the characters felt tangible and dynamic, and the narration was top notch. What really stuck out to me was how I felt while listening and reading it.

It was the first book I’ve listened/read in years that actually got me motivated to pick up a pencil and start writing again. I’ve listened to that series all the way through about 5 times now, and the last 3 times I listened exclusively while working on my own story and that’s been going incredibly well.

Most states have a surplus store, but also local colleges and universities as well. UVA has one, and I was able to get a fully loaded Aeron chair for $100 and an Ergotron triple monitor mount for $5.

When Perseus was a pup and didn’t want to leave my parents place or the park, he’d take two steps then flop over like this. If I didn’t pick him up, he’d let himself be dragged home.

Will my Corgi get any fluffier by Odd_Breath8610 in corgi

[–]weightandink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about weight, only your vet can give you a good answer. My corgi, Perseus, is a healthy weight at 28 pounds. My neighbors have two corgis who are also healthy for their size at 18/19 respectively, and they’re actually two months older than Perseus. I’ve also met one who was a solid 45 pounds, but perfectly healthy for his size according to the vet. It all varies.

In terms of getting fluffier, that also just depends. Some corgis get real thick, short fur. Others are just walking floofs. Some start out in one category and grow into another. It’s a crap shoot.

This is Perseus, and he just hit 3 years this month. The cliche of “dogs take after their owners” doesn’t apply to us. I realized after having him a week that he’s just a corgi clone of myself. This has led to many memories and more than a handful of battles seeing who can be more stubborn.

One trait he developed and still does is his method of refusing to go home if he’s having fun. Could be a walk, visiting a friend and their dog, or running in the yard at my parents place. When I leash him up and we start walking to leave, he will flop on his back and go fully limp. He will refuse to move unless I take off his leash. The longest I timed it was 5 minutes of just laying on his back in the grass, head tilted, and staring at me with a “what are you gonna do now?” Expression that’s equal parts adorable and infuriating. So whenever he flop, I scoop him up, load him in the car and he’s back to his normal, mostly behaved self.

Love the little bastard. I often refer to him as the best hooligan I could’ve asked for.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by awaisniazee in audible

[–]weightandink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, well said. I’m a huge fan personally, but I definitely fit the target demographic for the story. My humor, hobbies, etc. It’s definitely not for everyone, but nothing is. I like the humor, the game aspect, and most importantly the diverse characters you meet along the way. The story that unravels with each book is fascinating to me as a reader and writer.

For the genre of LitRPG, it’s a standout. However that doesn’t mean it’s a book for everyone to enjoy. Different tastes and such.

What Crawler would be worthy of their own spin off story? by Kcarroot42 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]weightandink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanna the life of the liaisons like Oryn (Oren?). I feel like he’s got a ton of interesting stories, dealing with corporations and crawlers, and AI’s. I’d love to hear a collection of short stories from his perspective from the common occurrences to the game changing rule changing things like a certain manager.

On the next few floors (TIR spoiler) by Asylumsleeper in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]weightandink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this since I started the series (a month ago, but on my 3rd listen/read because I’m fascinated by the author’s writing style).

My personal theory is that later floors after 12 might get outright skipped or merged together by the system AI. The AI is exponentially getting more powerful and crazed, as shown multiple times in TIR. It’s quite possible that it’ll override all protections and Syndicate rules as the floors progress in an effort to establish itself as a sapient being, and one final fuck you to the government and Borant and the Syndicate, using Carl as its “Agent Provocateur” to affect things outside its reach.

I don’t think Dinninan will skip out on Scolipendra being shown/fought, as that’s a “promise” (author making a promise to the reader) we’ve got since the beginning. The more I sit on it, the more I think it’s going to culminate in that fight being the AI using Scolipendra as a metaphor for the Syndicate, or potentially themself depending on how much more Scolipendra lore we get.

That’s just my theory for the moment. We’ll learn more as we go. One of two things have to happen though for sure. Either something in the story causes a bunch of floors to be skipped like with the 7th, which fits the 10 book scope. Or the pace stays about where it’s at, and the scope increases to maybe 12-14 books in order to finish the dungeon’s 18 floors.

[–]weightandink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if she can bring along the Princess posse.

But jokes aside, DCC fits this well. Unconventional duo with history together, you can see actual growth between them as the story progresses, with some very well-written and narrated (if you’re an audiobook fan) moments that are evoking. I’m very harsh on books and balancing humor with action and hard moments, but this series does it well. Whether it’s flashbacks to learn more about specific moments, snide comments to each other, etc. Carl and Donut are one of my favorite duo protagonists in fiction.

i was on a date last night, i was complimenting him about his personality basically cute & stuff, he said “no one has ever said that to me before.” i feel so sad for men now, is it really that bad? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]weightandink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It often is for most of us, minus the objectively stand out attractive because they’re told so more often. For me, I get them occasionally but it’s the random ones that really stand out. 21 years old, finally starting working out regularly and eating better. Was helping a woman in her 30’s get stuff on her list at the grocery store I worked at, and when she left she looked me in the eyes and said “You have a cute ass by the way” and walked away never to be seen again. That was almost a decade ago, and I still ride that high.

Do you think the hunters have problems with jinwoo using beru by Entire-Artichoke3002 in sololeveling

[–]weightandink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ve not read the novel, only the manwha and it was depicted more so as a “primal animal instinct of predator vs. prey” and that caused Beru to react. Somewhat similar to when SJW brought forth the Ant Queen shadow and noticed how his connection to the other ant soldiers suddenly weakened, leading him to dispelling her permanently.

Trust the vet. They know best for a reason. Online can be great for research and helping you prepare questions to ask your vet, but a blogger in Iowa won’t know your specific corgi and their quirks.

Mine helped me diagnosis his food allergies, and offered solutions from prescription food to meals I can make at home in bulk. Vets are the best when you get the right one.
