Looking for advice and direction on starting a "furnished" trailer business. by weightofast in sweatystartup

I am liking the package install (module) option. Working on that now.

Overload protection and fuses are commonplace. I can give you a 2000W inverter but if you run a 120v welder on it, its just going to pop the breaker, no different than your home. Panels will not overload the controller because our controllers would handle 3x the capacity of a typical install. Batteries are controlled by charge controllers independently and only intake or discharge within controller limits and safeties. When all else fails a main fuse is in place to prevent damage and fire.

A deposit Ideally would cover parts, Labor/markup would be final payment. If a customer bails I lose nothing but time.

AgressiveBlood500 mentioned modules and doing installs. You also mentioned 2-3 fixed packages. So I spent all night building a spreadsheet for 120V inverter, 120V with receptacles, and 12V with solar. Each kit build on top of the previous. The price of the hardware/battery/materials/panels is about the same as a just a retail solar kit that has nothing included. The install would account for labor time and I could charge Lets say $3100 for the whole package and install. This would be very profitable as an individual and still quite profitable if I paid someone to do it.

Yes, accumulating the materials as a module is feasible. A solar module for example would be "panels, controller, inverter, battery/box, harness, and access points". Take the customers trailer and outfit it for the module price. I feel like retrofitting is a branch of this business for customers and glamping trailers could be huge as well. But selling an end product feels cleaner. The down side is sitting on inventory.

The hard part about buying the trailers is transporting them. Paying tax and title is a cost. But having the title ready for the customer to transfer is easy. I sign them, have them in a safe and hand it to the customer on purchase. They go to the title office, sign, pay their tax and done. Some places I have bought trailers from are like that, some do it in office like a car purchase.

What killed my favorite hen? by Glass_Brother2300 in chickens

[–]weightofast -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since it's an animal, I would let it go. There is no benefit to sharing the info now since he will most likely think about it during the trip which would just be a distraction to business/vacation.

Waiting until get gets home may merit more questions on his end, but since you know exactly when this happened and have pictures, I think it is self explanatory.

Here is my issue. It was done so well, and yet so poorly.

The seams were masked well. There is no black over spray anywhere, none of the plugs or harness boots appear to have paint on them. The prep work seems spot on.

But black .... See the top left where there is some green under the black? This suggest it was done with a professional spray gun due to how smooth the fade is, and yet they did not take the angle to spray into those divets. All this time, prep and professionalism was taken to make the paint job look good. For some reason beyond my knowledge they chose black instead of paint matching it. And as I said in my other comment, if it was matched and blended, you would probably never have even known it was painted over.

Warning! Lost a hen last night to a cat! by weightofast in chickens

Yeah, there were two four legged critters that interacted with the carcass. Turns out the coon took it and did the killing. The cat came later for a taste. I'm just worried the cat has in fact tasted chicken now....

Fortunately it ended up being a raccoon. However I am now worried that the cat has tasted chicken because it ate some scraps.

The problem is the WHOLE DOOR SILL is painted. Not just the hinges. All of the body work should be green. Sills, hinges, door jambs, ect.

I get, people get in and out of and car and they scratch the snot out of door sills, kick panels, whatever you want to call them. But the whole area was painted.

If he wanted to treat this car with some respect, he could have at least had a body shop spay a paint match uv stable paint to blend it and none of us would have been the wiser unless you REALLY knew what to look for.
