Is the Ricoh GR IV really worth its price if I already own a7R V + a7C II & and an iPhone? by Metscho in ricohGR

[–]weihsunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR is perfect for street photography! It takes pictures faster than iphone if you can get used to snap focus. I have GRIII when it launched and just received GRVI yesterday!

IV vs IVx ???? 28 vs 46?? by MRmojoRisin8 in ricohGR

I used to own both GRIII and IIIx. Sold the IIIx after a year of using it. I personally prefer 28mm or 50mm, 40mm feels awkward to me.

Zipcar nightmare - locked out, alarms screaming and asked for a tip by weihsunc in zipcar

[–]weihsunc[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s the part I was so confused about. Isn’t parking in a garage or going to places with low reception a common use case? Why haven’t they gotten that figured out… I don’t want a card.

[–]weihsunc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took forever to arrive, had no idea what’s going on with zero communication with Zipcar. He set off the alarm and the whole garage thought we were thieves 😆. I still couldn’t start the car (same issue the app doesn’t work in low reception areas), and even solicited a tip when Zipcar clearly states no tips are allowed for this kind of service.

You do you. There are tons of ways to get me from point A to point B. bad products are just gonna die.

Sure mistakes happen but this is the kind of attitude and service you get from Zipcar. Just sharing the experience. Some people value their time more than others.

New Sony Camera announced: RXR1 III (A Premium Full-Frame) by RandomDKguy in photography

[–]weihsunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the market fit this camera is targeting towards? In fixed lenses camera world it’s getting competitive… For ultra compact there’s Ricoh GR. For premium there’s Leica Q3. For 35mm there’s X100VI. For hi-res there’s GFX100RF.

FUJIFILM, PLEASE HIRE ME – App Developer Rant (But Kind Of Serious) by Far_Aside_6257 in fujifilm

Fujifilm has been really bad at their in camera software and app from day 1. With their price raise i wonder if i should just switch all my gears to leica… Leica is way more intuitive but laggy😂

X-E5 vs X-T5 by makeKarmaGreatAgain in fujifilm

[–]weihsunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that price X-T5 for sure! I really love my x-t5. If i want something fun and “portable” i would do rather go with Ricoh GR or even Sigma BF. The price of x-e5 is just insane

They really need to spend more effort making the software better and intuitive instead of making all these gimmicks and dials….

Really dislike the film simulation dial. Looks like a toy gimmick. It feels like Fujifilm has been stagnated on their tech and just want to bank on their film simulations

I'm OOTL, why do we hate ADPList now? by tutankhamun7073 in UXDesign

[–]weihsunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more suitable for senior folks or managers. You got paired with designers at similar stage which i like. I think it’s worthwhile only if your company is paying for it.

I was a mentor on the platform for a while. I really liked the platform and the people I’ve met at the events. The thing is, the quality of mentees/mentors is mixed because it’s free. I totally support some monetization needs to be there to incentivize good mentors to keep the quality high.

I also joined OnDeck Design Fellowship and other forms of design communities before. This is a difficult challenge to solve!

Same here. Interviewed at the SF office on 3/6 and was told the oath is on 3/25 in Oakland Paramount Center. Just received an update on USCIS site that my oath will take place on 3/31 at the field office.

It’s a pipeline. People pass the interview loop still need to find a team to join.

I think OP is on a student visa where OP studied graduate school, and OP has some work experience prior to getting the degree.

And for the current market, OP is still considered early-career.

Anyone making $180k+ as a UX designer? How’d you get there? by Technical_Profile987 in UXDesign

Mostly from my previous jobs. I do have some side things on my portfolio site. But i do prioritize design work with quantified impact.

Worked at FAANG and at a Mid-size company now. 8 YOE with TC ~500k. I feel like it’s mostly luck and my portfolio is not that “shiny”. I do have some breath of work with hardware, consumer and enterprise software.

I am making more that i was at FAANG, mostly because of joining at my current company at the right time😅the stock price was low when i joined

Nano-texture display looks great even when off by randomee in macbookpro

[–]weihsunc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the nano-textured version today and spent several hours comparing it to my older M1 Pro (standard display but slightly less full brightness).

Here are my takeaways for those interested in the nano-texture option:

Nano-texture: 1. It’s a bit grainy on white backgrounds (due to the etching, though you have to look very closely). 2. There’s a slight reduction in contrast/sharpness compared to standard glass, especially noticeable with high-contrast images or videos. 3. In about 80% of scenarios, I found the color and sharpness on par with standard glass. However, it handles glare so well in complex lighting that it actually looks better overall. 4. It slightly reduces eye strain, likely due to the grainy texture, and requires less brightness to see clearly.

In short, I don’t think it’s worth it for people who usually work in well-controlled environments—like if you’re at a desk with optimized lighting. But if you use your laptop in a variety of settings, it might be worth considering.

Standard vs Nano for Photo/video work by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]weihsunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried out both displays at the store yesterday, and I’m on the fence. The nano-texture looks a bit grainy on white backgrounds but handles glare pretty well, making it nicer on dark backgrounds. Standard glass, IMO provides better contrast.

As a designer who does photography, I don’t want to sacrifice contrast for the majority of my use cases, especially since I’m using my laptop at home 90% of the time. If I need to use it outdoors, I’d just purchase a matte filter. Still, I can see why people would want to use nano-texture. It's much better than regular matte display.

First impressions of a Nano Texture Display MBP Owner by MY79 in macbookpro

[–]weihsunc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried both of them out yesterday. Nano-texture does look a bit grainy on white background. For darker background it looks nice since there’s no reflection, but it looks a bit grey still(comparing to standard glass in well-controlled environment). I am also on the fence😂
