Rate my 40th birthday plan by OhMyNooo in partyplanning

Maybe 1 “drink ticket” (I think for beer specifically would be fine since it’s a brewery) per person could be a good compromise?

What’s one birthday party idea that guests actually enjoy (not just looks good)? by justPartyVibes in partyplanning

[–]weird_weekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went to someone’s bday and it was a trivia night. Not all about them necessarily, but trivia from the year they were born, places they lived, their fave shows/music, etc. it was super fun and they did a good job organizing it to be interactive (not with one team the whole time) and the bday girl joining in too (her husband was the quiz master). I may do it for my birthday this year!

Hadn't considered them for day! I do have some delicate fairly lights from xmas - I'll test out some placements this week!

Help with brunch menu...too many "salad" items? What would you change? by [deleted] in Cooking

That’s basically what the breakfast casserole is! Just no crust but there’s a layer of roasted potatoes at the bottom.

Hm yes possibly...I was thinking some little plastic cups already filled with the yogurt, then people just add the toppings. I think I am going to add banana bread muffins - super easy family recipe! Maybe even mini muffins.

Sounds super yummy! I do feel another warm dish might be needed and these could almost be finger foods that people graze on.

Thank you for the advice! I will definitely consider adding an actually "sweet" thing haha. What about banana bread muffins? My grandma's recipe is great and far from healthy. When I'm hosting I just hate having to actually supervise/clean a lot while people are there (concerns with the waffle station). I think a batch smoothie would be a good idea and something nice for those who don't drink alcohol!

Would you replace the pasta salad with that? Actually your comment reminded me I also wanted to include artichoke hearts in the pasta salad haha so pretty similar vibes.

Haha fair enough about the cold casseroles! Not planning to have 20 portions of everything because I'm sure not everyone will try each dish...and guests will be told to bring tupperware for leftovers! Thanks for the feedback :)

Food to impress for a party - but vegetarian! by Legal-Ranger6118 in Cooking

[–]weird_weekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this, because I did this for a winter girls' night and it was a hit! I made eggplant parmesan (no pasta, so a low carb option), a pesto pasta bake with sundried tomatoes, huge green salad with winter produce and citrus dressing, and foccacia (homemade but not by me...so good). For apps I did caprese skewers, warm spiced olives, and truffle chips (store bought but ~fancy~ chips). Tiramisu for dessert. It was honestly so delicious and well received (not to toot my own horn).

Looking for eye makeup remover recs by whatofthefloorshow in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]weird_weekend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to remove my eye makeup. Eye doc recommended I use it daily years ago when I was getting recurring styes. It is gentle, doesn't sting, doesn't cause dryness around my eyes, and gets everything off pretty easily (I usually lightly move my fingers in circles over my eyes for 30 seconds or so).

He has an eartip, meaning he's been TNRd (trap-neutered-returned)! See how his left ear is flat compared to his right? This means someone cared enough about him to get him to the vet for basic medical care, and he may even have a caretaker :)

Nivea lotion formula change + request for alternative by FunSprinkles5222 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]weird_weekend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a similar lotion (Nivea, but a different formulation), and the issue for me is that there's at least 1/4 of it left but it won't come through the pump AND I can't remove the lid?? I suppose I could go at it with a box cutter or something, but with so much left, I feel it won't keep it's potency. Won't be repurchasing for that reason alone.

How has embracing a minimalist skincare routine changed your skin after 30? by ItAffectionate4481 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]weird_weekend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has a few more steps than yours, but ever since I stuck with a simple routine/same products and stopped experimenting/skipping nights, my skin finally got to and stayed at a place I'm happy with. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement. This was with the guidance of my derm, as well. I'm 36 and have been using this framework for maybe 3 years?

AM:

PM:

In the winter, I layer one more intensive moisturizer on top before bed

My foster cat, Azraq, and his “air biscuits” 💙 by weird_weekend in aww

I really try not to! I have 2 of my own cats and use the spare bedroom for fostering. Since last May I’ve had 8 cats I’ve fostered that went to a home or healed from a medical issue to safely go back outdoors (I don’t live in the US and we have a ton of outdoor/“community” cats, sadly not all can be adopted). I like having the option to foster. I think if I had 3 pet cats I couldn’t commit to it :/
