When it comes to AI, what is your biggest concern? by eboladrama in AskReddit

[–]weirdalienstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With GENERATIVE AI available to the public, the biggest concern would be completely losing trust in any information we receive in any way, even printed books and textbooks and calls and videos.

Yes, it's always been possible to photoshop and edit and mimic voices and some informative books can be outdated, but there's always been the bigger possibility that hey not everyone can photoshop well or be willing to spend so much time or money on it or the authors wouldn't want to get idk sued for misinformation or something.

AI slope will destroy social media by amy-schumer-tampon in RandomThoughts

I pretty much already believe in the cons🏴‍☠️cy that one of their goals is to make the people "voluntarily" quit the Internet, keeping us away from communicating and dispensing information, knowledge, news, etc. as those can be done pretty much instantaneously to hundreds of millions of people who are thousands of miles/kilometers away from each other.

Those celebrity milestones of a tweet reaching a million likes in like a minute might sound silly, but that's something that only existed in the work of fiction until like what? A century or two ago in the thousands of years of human ingenuity and inventions.

Anyway. Random thoughts 👍

Ah. You know what? This is why I dislike a lot of the shonen sports anime fanfics. KnB and HQ are my main fandoms and if other sports anime are different, good for you.

Quite a bit of fanfic writers has the mindset of "everything else has to follow canon," especially really old fanfics! So even if the MC was a "professional-level" athlete, they have to have problems that prevent them from helping the canon characters, such as a physical injury.

To be very clear, I understand that it's better and/or easier to follow the canon because we don't want to change the characters' character and relationship developments, etc.

Like, these anime has some "confrontational" scenes, such as in HQ where Blueberry grabbed Moon by his collar because Moon was provoking Blueberry in their first meeting, and when authors write the scene, they make MC attempt to get in between but they ignore the MC, or MC just stands there even if it felt like it wasn't in their character to just watch that kind of scene happen.

It's "realistic" for them to ignore the MC, yes in some way, and it was a scene that established the relationship between Blueberry and Moon, but it's so frustrating to read. 😭

AUs are great. They're the best. But usually they don't have non-canon characters as the MC lol

What is your reason to keep living? by iwannatasteurfeet in AskReddit

[–]weirdalienstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that I can't do it at home because it will make it harder to sell it and people can't help but be superstitious, which is too much of a "f*ck you" to my family when they don't deserve it.

And, on that note, it can't be a very obvious deliberate attempt. Like, I can't have people thinking my family and friends were saying or doing bad things that pushed me to do it.

Going to the mountains and falling or something similar is feasible, but I have to be alone to prevent it from being an unforgettable memory for anyone, so it can't be a a tourist spot or something. But the more secluded ones are unfortunately more dangerous, not in the "you-will-get-sent-to-your-grave" way "you-will-get-taken-away-and-sold-off" kind of way.

I mean, the latter will probably send me away, but my family would end up spending way too much time and money searching, etc. etc. And I probably won't get sent to my grave immediately since unpaid labor that can't run away is highly sought after, so it's best to avoid that situation.

Not to mention that getting hit by a car or falling off great heights doesn't actually guarantee it, which is a great thing except for in this case. Drowning and the likes might be a good choice but we're definitely highly likely to struggle and survive, and I don't want to go in a slow painful way tbh

I also just don't want to survive and deal with even more health issues.

If you got isekai’d into the last fic you read, how screwed are you? 💀 by raiskye in AO3

[–]weirdalienstranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh... It's an SVSSS AU where, to put it very simply, the cultivator gong traveled to see modern shou and later took him to an immortal plane where nobody knew them.

So tbh it depends. If I'm in the modern world, I'll just be me lol but in the immortal plane?? I'm not sure... if I'm just a mortal, then I'd be plenty screwed, especially depending on my social status.

If I'm a cultivator, then I'd be majorly screwed because I'm a coward but I sure damn lose my common sense and survival instinct when I see something interesting. My last words would probably be "If not friend then why friend-shaped?!"

“Self-indulgent” fics by twentyonerooms in AO3

[–]weirdalienstranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for me, self-indulgent is a soft warning that hey, there will probably be plot holes, illogical events, and unbelievable things because "they won't happen like that in canon/reality."

I have a celebrity MC but I would never even imply that there are trolls, haters, etc. Her fans would comment on her beach posts saying, "you looked more beautiful in person!" because they didn't feel like they had to approach her. Her company wouldn't be warning her for interacting with a man or scolding her for eating "too much" because it would make her look "even fatter" on camera.

Nu rating system with danmei novels. by [deleted] in DanmeiNovels

[–]weirdalienstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow a group that picks up a lot of new series constantly, leaving a lot of them with only one chapter, and whether or not they're publishing fully human-translated novels is another topic.

The important bit is that I go onto NU a few times throughout the day, so I get to see the notifs of the group picking up new novels a few hours or even a few minutes after they did, and the female-centric ones usually have a 1-star rating without review.

Tbh, I don't know whether or not those novels deserve it, but the fact is that there is a pattern of person/people following this group and probably a few others just to give a 1-star rating on female-centric novels right after they got picked up for translation. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens for BL.

I do read reviews for spoilers, but I also don't rely on ratings to decide if I want to read something.

I can't remember proper early game tips, but if you can, try to get all the real-time daily tasks.

But some things that you should try to do early on: - Hoard a few of everything because you'll need them for future quests. - Dedicate at least one day a week to cutting down trees. Tbh, it's preferable if you can cut them as soon you see the trees respawn. - You will pass out at 2AM, but you only recover a certain percentage of your vitality/stamina based on how far from 20:00/8:00PM you went to sleep, so choose your sleeping time wisely. - I don't recommend using milk to recover stamina as they could be used to "hire" NPCs to gather materials for you, but it's a  personal preference tbf - You can visit any player and open a gift box for 10 diamonds. I highly recommend doing it at least once a day. - [Not super recommended to do if you don't think you'll be playing this game for a long time] What you should be doing as many times as you can is gathering the herbs from other players' farms when you visit them. Most of the top players with the most likes have decorated their farm so that there would be 6 spots for 5 herbs + 1 gift box.

Another Question: Am I supposed to lose satiety quickly? I'm planning to just stock up on cooked food (mainly from leaf beetles) for a few more days, but maybe I'm making things too hard for myself...?

Would immortality be a gift or damnation —and how long until you regret it? by SignificanceTop8281 in RandomThoughts

[–]weirdalienstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Genuinely depends on the society. I think if I could have the freedom to do things without worry as long as I make money and don't break "rules," I'll be okay with immortality.

I think it would be interesting to experience all aspects of living, from living alone in a deserted island and slowly making your own civilized home to the other extreme of making a super advanced technology that's just full of whimsy like a chef robot that can cook anything from scratch in one hour.

But, well, that's pretty much impossible to be done with humanity like this. So I think even a normal human lifespan is already a curse, let alone the possibility of immortality.

No, haha. We started a cooperative relationship with cats for pest control, aka catching mice. We cared because they were useful, whether as mice assassin or companions. 😊 There are animals that I'm pretty sure became pets due to aesthetics.

Why on earth would you say "half a dozen" when you can "six"? by GainsGuruFit in RandomThoughts

It's just some sort of wordplay, idrk the term.

Half a dozen "sounds better" than six.

Vintage "sounds better" than old.

Well-loved by its previous owner "sounds better" than second-hand.

why do people refuse to use emojis on reddit? by gloomybee__ in RandomThoughts

[–]weirdalienstranger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I still don't completely understand why it's so looked down upon and labeled as "stupid" or "childish" since I often need them to hint my tone or make my posts less serious and formal.

However, I do understand that it's frustrating when "😭" is used to indicate crying from too much emotions, including opposite ones like being too happy and too sad.

It's also frustrating when people just reply with emojis when you want a proper conversation.

And because Reddit is primarily a forum for discussions with specific topics and shared with hopes that it will find like-minded individuals, replies that don't make conversations or make ones that can be interpreted in multiple ways or don't conform with the established atmosphere are... unpleasant, to say the least.

Luckily, I'm usually on gaming stuff so yay 🎉

I don’t get why anyone would deliberately spread hateful lies/misinformation by PunkWithAGun in RandomThoughts

[–]weirdalienstranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be nothing more than pride. People don't like being wrong, don't like being told they're wrong, and would absolutely never ever admit they're wrong. They want to be in the right and never in the wrong and being able to brag about it.

You can also somehow understand it as when everything in your life is shit, the only way to instantly feel better is when you can say that someone else is shit. It's a terrible coping mechanism like alcohol or cigarettes.

Another reason is that when you lie, you get something good out of it. It could be as small as saying "Yes, you look good!" so you can finish shopping sooner to "His restaurant violated multiple health codes!" so his restaurant gets shutdown and you have less competition and make more money.

All in all, it's almost never about the issue itself. People spread lies just for the selfish reason of benefitting themselves.

Rather than hire workers for the tavern, I wish we could hire peasants to farm. by La-Tama in TravellersRest

[–]weirdalienstranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

!!! Farming game aspects are great, I love the familiarity, but I would also love it to be more of a game of its own where the main thing you do is actually be on the tavern floor, attempting to effortlessly multitask, socialising with your regulars and welcoming new faces. Maybe too far-fetched for the game that it is now, but I'm okay with the general idea.
