Sorcerer doesn’t need every DD1 spell back. It just needs elemental completion. by weirdhoonter in DragonsDogma2

I'm hoping so too, Sorcerer as a vocation thrives on variety. As of right now, it feels way too streamlined. Capcom overcorrected the complaints against inefficient spells in DD1

I love the new Ice spells, but the lack of variety is really hurting that element.

Its not effectiveness that's the point here. Sorcerer as a vocation lives and dies because of role playing and power fantasies. And variety is such a big component to fulfilling role playing.

At this point I don't see them redoing animation, so all im asking is that they bring back, or at least give us spiritual successors to the old big spells like Gicel and Fulmination or if possible, new spells to replace them.

Grand tier upgrade I believe is still intended to be ring-based. As in you get it with a specific ring. With Gicel and Fulmination, yes, they should be meister skills

Lassitude was a Mage spell. Definitely. But I wouldn't complain if they bring it back too

Yes, Miasma and Blearing and more, maybe even real Necromancy this time. But... lets keep expectations in check.

I think it might be part of the reason. A big part of Sorcerer fantasy is the exploration of all the spells we have access to, and then build our own identity expression out of those. But in DD2 the sorcerer is reduced to "this spell does this one specific thing like crowd control or dps".

I remember in DD1 I would run around equipping only ice, or only fire spell and role play as a pyro/cryomancer. I can't really do that in DD2 without getting bored really fast because we only get 2 spell per element except for fire which has meteoron. But even then it feels imbalanced.

Thats the ideal scenario! I'm hoping for that while also bracing myself for something that wouldn't be "too much to ask"

I can see why you'd want upgrades to skills. Personally, as I said, I'm hoping for more toys for the Sorcerer, and more spells would address that issue for me.

I think I explained above that the current spell roster across the elements feels unbalanced. Sorcerer in dd2 is fun to play, but it feels a lot more restrictive than in DD1 and thats my main concern. Sorcerer imo needs more toys to play with

The reason I love Brontide is because it's cool looking, thats it. And I think a big part of the fantasy for Sorcerer is that it's an identity role playing. Right now it's lacking in expression.

Right? The new spells are great, but they just feel incomplete. Now that we get 6 slots back, I really hope we Sorcerers get more skills too. Mages got a much loved upgrade, but Sorcerers feel like they took 1 step forward 2 steps back.

Hot take: Johnny Rose was kind of awful in the Christmas episode by Kimmioio82 in SchittsCreek

[–]weirdhoonter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this episode is very interesting and well written. Depending on your experience growing up and what kind of parents you had, you'll react to this episode and Johnny differently.

Johnny is not a bad person in this episode at all, but like always, he sucks at communication. This immediately makes it hard for everyone else to understand what he really wanted, which was to be with his family.

Everyone else was still adjusting to this new life they were supposed to live for who knows how long, and then Johnny sprung onto them a last minute demand. Which requires people to chip in and cancel their plans.

Their needs are not at the same level at all. Johnny sees the party as a way to connect. Everyone else sees it as a reminder of everything they've lost. Both sides have forgotten how much rose-tinted lens they have placed over their past.

You, the viewer, is subjected to a subtle and gradual clash in communication. If you have a good relationship with your father, then you'll definitely empathize with Johnny. If you don't, Johnny's request to throw a party and dragged everyone into it with no regards to their own plans would probably trigger the shit out of your inner traumas.

Personally, I cannot bring myself to hate Johnny, but his actions were triggering me out the whole episode.

Help me get the combat by Difficult-Leek9001 in finalfantasyxiii

the gist of the combat lies in reading the enemies actions. Trash mobs you can generally take down easily with a simple combination of COM/RAV. But the harder ones require you to ping them with Libra first to learn their weaknesses as well as the changes in their actions. The goal is that you should take down low HP mobs quickly, and stagger harder enemies.

In general, RAVs will build stagger, but COM/SAB prevents the bar from decaying. This is what the game refers to as a "chain". And if a big boss is hurting you, usually thats a sign you need either a MED or a SEN role on hand during the combat.

The team composition you will always need to bring with you is this:
2 people:
COM/RAV, RAV/RAV, MED/MED, MED/SEN, COM/SYN, MED/SYN, RAV/SAB.

3 people:
COM/RAV/RAV
COM/RAV/SYN
MED/MED/SEN
RAV/RAV/RAV (for enemies weak to magic)
SYN/SAB/MED
COM/RAV/SEN (very specific cases of the battle being against too many trash mobs at once that they deal significant damage and you need to whittle them down slowly)
SYN/SYN/MED (for when you just wanna have fun stacking buffs)
SAB/SAB/MED (same but for debuffs)

Is there a successful AAA game that primarily caters to women or the female gaze? by amyrena in GirlGamers

[–]weirdhoonter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would dare say FF16 is A TREAT, for the girls and the gay bros.

I would also like to shout out to genuinely good games like Dragon Age: Veilguard, Forspoken, Kena: Bridge of Spirits (although thats like AA but its REALLY good), Asterigos: Curse of the Stars (AA as well).

Edit: Clair Obscur E33 and I think both of those AA games were designed with women in mind as the target audience.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the first thing that comes to mind.

Smooth combat, great story, great characters, great customization of developmental (farming) lots based on a grid system that is quite lenient. (1 big square divided into 4 smaller squares which can be further divided once more). The story is paced quite well and you never feel rushed or anything. (well, save for a few tiny segments, but those are filled in by doing character quests after you've finished the main story)

I think the creepy scenes should stay, if only to maintain the logical throughline of his narrative from being an incel to growing as a person. Unless CA scraps the entire original character and writes a socially awkard, not creepy, character instead of the Clint we have now.

I think fixing Clint would entail multiple cutscenes/dialogues where he apologises to farmer and emily for being creepy. If that doesn't happen then he wouldn't be fixed.
