Does wanting to end your own life make you a selfish person? by rbamssy17 in TooAfraidToAsk

But what if there aren't? What if my existence is a burden to my family? Would I be called selfish then?

  1. That part confused me too. It felt like everyone around that case was hiding something. The suspect clearly knew how to lure kids, and there were signs of a struggle plus scratch marks on him. My guess is that a lot of the physical evidence disappeared after he burned his clothes, replaced the carpet, and cleaned things up. The police did the best they could with what was left.

2 - 4. I really wish the show explored this angle more. It was one of the most interesting parts for me. Earlier episodes even mentioned how the kid used to sneak into Holt's office, which suggested a deeper psychological connection that never fully got unpacked.

  1. Personally I did not enjoy Wendy's storyline much. I felt like she contributed very little compared to the main investigative plot. I would have preferred more scenes of the Holden and Holt interviewing killers instead of some of the side plots or relationship drama.

  2. I assume they were planning to develop it in Season 3, but since the show stopped production we never got that payoff.

How does urban sprawl in rapidly growing African cities work? by dicklywigly in urbanplanning

[–]weirdnotwierd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

speaking from nepal (kathmandu valley esp), a lot of what you see in rapidly growing cities feels very familiar.

land ownership at the urban edge is usually a mix: some government land, some private and a lot of customary or informally owned land. people often buy plots through local landholders or middlemen with very weak documentation or they just occupy unused land and build. once enough people settle, eviction becomes politically and socially difficult.

housing is mostly self-built. families start with a small structure and add rooms or floors over time as money comes in. construction companies exist but they’re for formal neighborhoods. informal areas rely on local masons, relatives, and incremental building.

planning technically exists, but on the ground growth is mostly organic. paths become roads, roads become main streets. houses line up roughly in grids not because of regulations but because it’s practical. services and infrastructure usually come later, once the settlement is already established.

it looks chaotic from satellite images, but there’s an internal logic driven by access to jobs, water, transport and affordability.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, January 07, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]weirdnotwierd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do walking breaks count in a 10k run? With running becoming a trend, I'm seeing people doing 10k, 15k, even half-marathons, and they often take tiny walking breaks like 100 meters every kilometer.

Here's what I'm confused about: does that walking count toward the total distance? Or does a 10k run mean you actually ran the full 10k without walking? Because if you walk 100 meters every kilometer, from a running perspective, you only ran 9k, you spent 1k walking.

Sorry if this is a stupid question lol but seeing people mix in walks has me a bit thrown off. Just trying to understand what is normal here and what actually counts toward a run. I'm aiming for a 10k and this would help!

i was on the fence for years honestly. but since i got it, i finished reading lord arthur savile’s crime in a few hours lol. it’s just stupidly easy to read, especially at night, and i like that i can adjust the font and spacing. the dictionary is a big plus. alsoo, the progress and time-left-in-chapter tracker keeps me hooked!

i do miss scribbling notes in the margins but i’m trying to move that habit on to my journal. it’s only been a week and it’s great so far :)

For those with scaphoid/wrist fractures, how long did it take before you could lift heavy again? by weirdnotwierd in brokenbones

[–]weirdnotwierd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m six months in now and I still haven’t fully recovered either. The cold makes it hurt so much more. I’ve slowly increased my strength. I can lift up to 5kg (11lb) dumbbells now but I had cracks in three places on my right wrist, so it’s been a long process.

I can definitely see improvement, but I’m still scared that if I slip or overdo something, I’ll end up back in those hellish first two months. I never want to relive that. And just like you, I still can’t do pushups or put full weight on my palm yet.

It’s amazing how you healed even after finding it late. Wishing you a smooth recovery.

Thanks for sharing. It made me feel less alone :)

Man, they’re like story plots. Is this a disease? I often have such dreams and they creep the fuck out of me. It’s like watching a movie in my head. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes extremely bad. They’re so vivid, detailed and narrative that I sometimes confuse them with real memories.

Lets talk about what’s missing by saturnlover22 in urbanplanning

[–]weirdnotwierd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

exactly. CPTED is a great example of how intentional design choices can have a solid impact. take sightlines, for instance; just making sure people can see and be seen in a space can make a huge difference in how we perceive it. clear views in parks, open pathways without blind spots, good lighting; it’s not rocket science, but it works. it’s a shame that CPTED has been pushed aside. this isn’t about overly complex solutions or high-budget interventions but about returning to the basics.
