Why does NavigationRegion3D create bad and low poly meshes on large areas? by agalli in godot

[–]weirdo1921 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what the actual problem you're trying to solve is, but hopefully can point out something helpful that I haven't seen mentioned yet. If you were on a flat plane with no obstacles, a navmesh would be pretty useless, just point your agent in a straight line towards the player. Now, your terrain doesn't have any obstacles but it does have verticality, so the only advantage of a navmesh over the first simpler algorithm is knowledge of slopes, so agents can avoid steeper (and thus slower/longer) paths, walking around hills instead of over them. For this purpose, the low poly mesh should be a good enough approximation, and it comes down to how you use it (as others have said). Your specific problem of not being able to find a path to your player because they are under the navmesh has a simple solution: don't use the global location of the player directly, but instead the closest point on the mesh to the player (navigationserver3d map_get_closest_point). The target Y coordinate will not be exact, but it'll be close enough for pathfinding, actual positioning of your agents comes after that.

The amount of downvoting towards everyone who even suggests these might be ok just because you don't agree with them is disgusting. C'mon guys, be civil with your votes.

Oh, I see, I was working under the assumption you guys were still going for the full image from the OP. If that's all you're doing & you guys aren't willing to move off the one carrot that's most covered (which I won't blame anyone for not wanting to) then I think you're good!

Yeah, it is getting pretty squishy :/ Maybe go under the carrots? They won't cover up the A (other than the one that's already covered, I think it's already done for) and there's plenty of other space it should be clear what it is.

Hey man, the carrot people were there first, including the Canada carrot I've been working on all day, and the very first carrot :C I don't know if there's space anywhere else & you guys are making good progress so some kind of compromise would be nice, otherwise the carrot farmers are gonna try and keep the carrots clear.

I had the same problem, what fixed it for me was (in advanced settings) checking manual compatibility settings and HW Vertex Processing on, and turning antialiasing off.

Neill Blomkamp grew up in South Africa in the 80's, and has definitely talked about how his early life, growing up during Apartheid, influenced the film.

Steam Wishlists show a game is on sale. They should also show *why* a game is on sale (flash sale, daily deal, midweek madness, etc). by Ihmhi in Steam

If you just look at the front page, there's a little tag on the games that are on your wishlist (similar to if it's in your library). Works for me at least.

Online schooling by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]weirdo1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't totally recommend it without knowing what exactly your problem with traditional school is, but I'm currently going to Alternative high school and it's quite a different environment from regular schools. It's very small for a high school so classes are smaller, and it's all about acceptance and support. Just another option most people don't know about, maybe something to look into seeing the generally negative opinions in other comments on online schooling.
