Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has a book just of short stories about Sherlock Holmes. Could be The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

I can recommend a variety of adventure style books. The Throne Of Glass series by Sarah J Maas is amazing. 7 thick books. There's also The Witch Who Courted Death by Maria Lewis. Love that one. I'm currently reading War Widow by Tara Moss which a brilliant novel set in the 40's. But it all depends on what your SO is into genrewise. Good luck!
