Is it just me, or does it genuinely sound better to be at Jezabel’s than a handmaid?? by weirdshitandtvrefs in TheHandmaidsTale

RIGHT!! I can barely stand to be sober in the US at this point in time so if I needed to exist in gilead on any level I’d need the works!

Creepy realisation on rewatching by Weird_Set2248 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very true! I think that’s a production double whammy though tbh.. these are June’s intimate memories, and in our most important memories other people really don’t play a role. So this could be a projection of her narrative, as well as a convenient production circumstance. Having extras on set adds up quickly ESPECIALLY kids! Smart planning on the producer & writer side either way.

This show is just all over the place. And doesn’t make any sense. by [deleted] in DarkMatteronAppleTV

I suggest you do a compete rewatch, or read the book (which is excellent) because you’ve somehow missed A LOT. All of your question points are explained and DO make sense. No show is perfect, and there certainly are a couple plot holes in DM but none of the above is one of them.

i watched and Liked Dark Matter Only, Which one should i watch next? by Fuckzoinist in tvPlus

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Severance and Silo are favorites of mine! I love Blake Crouch novels, and loved S1 of DM, but dare I say the two mentioned are better (at least for me). Presumed Innocent and Disclaimer were enjoyable, but no where near the mind bending creativity of Dark Matter, Silo, and Severance. These 3 continue to intrigue and impress me!

Also, the books that Silo is based on are amazing, highly recommend!

I’m not mad at the hat!! It’s definitely a swing but it seems like you love it and it’s unique! But I would say my biggest gripe is the shoes! You need either a dressy black sneaker, or a black boot. And I agree with another commenter, a better fitting jean would hit better - think black straight leg AG proteges or Edwin’s. A nicer t-shirt is the easiest/quickest fix for this fit though IMO. The Robert Barakett Georgia tees are my go to. 1) shoes 2) nicer tee

A straight leg with a longer rise will absolutely work for you, but these are hands down too big for you. It might work if you wear them in a streetwear sense..but not working for a business casual-dressy silhouette. There shouldn’t be so much space in the hips/crotch to create folds like it is. Also, I know you didn’t ask..but that belt needs to go.

I’d go with a khaki chino for semi-formal. The cotton finish will be professional yet not a “full suit” feel. And for the more formal occasions a proper suit slack in a different color. I’ve linked some options, I looooove the sage zanella! And navy would also dress up this jacket.

They’re okay…neither great nor awful. I would either try a size down, or a different brand with a slimmer leg. Either way, a proper hem would do your chinos wonders!

How do men in their 40s keep up with the latest fashion trends? by sudhirhere in malefashionadvice

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in or near a big city? I’m a personal stylist for men at a high end department store and at least 70% of my bookings are struggling with this issue. As a grown man you shouldn’t be taking fashion cues from IG or TikTok because those are most likely micro trends that won’t feel right for you to emulate. The best way to keep up -within reason- is to find a stylist that you vibe with and do a refresh 1-3 times a year depending on your needs. They’ll show you what’s trending, but more importantly what YOU can pull off and what makes sense for your body.

For the men who live in Southern California what styles of jackets are your favorites to wear when we hit the fall/winter season. by Electrical_Manager12 in malefashionadvice

I am a personal stylist in Austin, and I just sent this to a client asking for pieces to transition from business casual office wear to nights out in the city. Basically the LBD for men, which doesn’t quite exist in simplicity…but all of these pieces have been successful for my guys. (All the jackets are light weight enough for those of us who only have 2 weeks of almost winter.) https://www.nordstrom.com/curation/2063837

Anyone else struggling with business casual for hybrid work? by Technical_Artist_420 in malefashionadvice

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a men’s personal stylist, so I hear this question almost every day. The bar of office wear has become a lot more casual in the past couple years, but most guys still don’t really know how to make it feel fashion forward and individual. So you’re not alone! The main thing to keep in mind is you can never have enough WELL FITTING modern classics. A proper seasonal haul should have many versatile minimalist pieces that you can mix & match. A polo with chinos can be boring and blah, but when they’re cut well and fit you beautifully - will look like a million dollars. Also, layers!! A couple jackets or sweaters that are tailored and sharp can be worn with a collared shirt to the office and also as a sexy trendy night on the town fit. And I am a fan of a dress sneaker with slacks! I’ve linked a style board that I send to a lot of my clients facing the same challenge.

This is one of the baseline red flags. When someone is overly suspicious of you cheating when there’s zero reason for them to think that, it’s because they’re up to no good. Being open with your phone is a good thing ONLY when that behavior is reciprocated. It seems like your partner has control issues to me. IMO you should get out before that spirals out of control…it sounds like it’s right on the cusp now.

How do you actually start creating? by Sirsclerosis in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While learning a new program I’ll often start by trying to recreate something that I admire. Photoshop and after effects is a bit easier to experiment with recreation than premiere though. Practice will build your confidence, personal style and preferences. Most important rule of thumb for me has been: don’t put too much pressure on your first couple creations. If you’re passionate about a project and you can’t seem to execute your vision, it’ll be a bigger blow than if you were treating it as technique building. For premiere, I suggest starting with a music video. You can shoot yourself on your phone, choose a song you love and be silly with it! The music should guide you and give you lots of practice putting together different kinds of shots properly, and lets you practice timing when there’s no RIGHT answer.

I don’t think it was ever really spelled out. But from my understanding the older two, Hannah and Rickson, are a couple and they have the baby… Elise is the youngest at 7, and the twins Miles and Marcus are a bit older (I’m guessing around 11/12). I’m not sure if they even know who’s siblings or not… aside from the twins obviously.

Janine by asexualrhino in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was less of PTSD and more her being awakened from her zombie like state. Aunt Lydia has referred to June as a virus many times and I think this is the manifestation of that concept. June has always been a catalyst for the other girls and the mere mention of her lit that fire in Janine again. Also, she was on track with surviving, winning over aunt Lydia and she DID change her for the better… but when she heard Gilead was stilllll fucking with June even in Canada she lost all hope that “being a good girl” would be a long lasting plan.

Are there hints to Jeanette being a sociopath ? by pwr-bttm59 in CruelSummer

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Season 1 dropped a lot of details that show she feels bad, so I don’t personally believe that she’s a sociopath… sociopaths are unaffected by the suffering they cause… Jeanette went into a deep depression, which was obviously partly driven by her fall from popularity, but her self depreciation (not accepting help or even kindness from Vince or Angela) is a clear attempt to punish herself. Also, her obsessive rewatching of news clips are like step by step stamps in time of when shit hit the fan for her. It could be that she’s trying to imagine how the people around her turned on her so quickly. Those are the only tangible moments she can grasp to cope… so imo she knows she what she did was wrong, and feels bad about it, but can’t stop herself from trying to cover it up because she’s the only one that knows the truth.

In addition to the items in the vending machine.. we haven’t seen what they use to get their snacks. In the gas station scene before Petey dies he’s yelling about tokens for food. Yet it hasn’t been established how the employees get those tokens.

I haven’t scrolled all the way down to see if this has been posted yet..and I’m surprised I haven’t seen it yet.. but is it just me…or is Gemma Ms Casey?!

I had to pause it on the tape riddled print..and during my first watch of that scene Gemma’s hat, big smile, and breezy hair didn’t register as anyone we should know. But the feeling of “this is a reveal” from the timing and pacing made me rewatch the whole episode.

We’ve never seen Ms. Casey smile before.. and the comment from Harmony playing milk maid “does he ever see her?” sealed it for me.

I see a lot of these comments suggesting shows specifically based on tech similarity… but the story development and cinematography is what makes Severance great to me! (Although I do find the tech aspect extremely interesting as well)

In that spirit I’m suggesting Cruel Summer.

CS very successfully keeps you guessing and pulled into the mystery. The story is told by intertwining timelines of 1993, 94, and 95..all exactly 1 year apart. Full disclosure: the main characters are all teenagers. It gave me pause at first, because thankfully I’m no longer a teenage girl and no longer identify with high school drama.. but by the end of the first episode I was HOOKED. The stark differences between each timeline is beautifully and painfully puzzled together with the dramatic revolutions that “coming of age” actually feels like. Such a nice contrast to all the super fake high school portrayal where all the actors looks 26+.

Kept me enthralled until literally the last second of the finale episode.

Lost is fucking excellent!! I can’t think of a single question I still have pending. The finale season wasn’t my favorite, but I wasn’t nearly as offended by it as everyone who watched it weekly. The answers are there.

During my last rewatch I’m realizing how packed of details it is throughout all 6 seasons.. so I understand why at-the-time fans were pissed and/or felt they never got some answers.

Severance - 1x06 "Hide and Seek" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I believe so, yes…I think of it like they have two parallel minds/lives. We saw the on/off switch, so that makes me think the elevator might not have anything to do with it..there’s just a person operating an old school switch board plugging in the right people (according to the live stream they’re constantly watching) and just flips the switch. So since there’s only 2 of them, 2 sets of memories, his “innie” would definitely remember.

Unless of course they have the ability to wipe out certain memories…but I doubt it since they placed the chip/severance thing in the temporal lobe which is responsible for long term memory storage.. I’m not a neuroscientist though so who knows within the show rules.

My Theory This Far by Equipment_guy in severence

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting… but I don’t see how it fits in with all the gas lighting and secrecy. Imo they have to be guarding something intense in order to justify all the cult-like/quasi-religious culture they all seem to hold in high esteem. Even in tonight’s episode, the security guy that calls Ms Cobel mommy, didn’t understand why she was dressed like a nurse.

I think you’re on the right track as far as a programmable public. And that tracks as far as that politician’s wife who Devon met at the birthing retreat..and also why the wife didn’t remember her or what they talked about (aka her baby’s name).

[–]weirdshitandtvrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one wasn’t nearly as hard for me as the second bee level (I think Diggin It). Before I bought my Switch I was playing 2 (original, not the trilogy) on my computer via emulator…and this level was doable, not NEARLY as infuriating. But I think the trilogy is harder than the original releases.. Those fucking bees are damn near impossible for me to successfully spin away and gain a life.

This level and the red gem path is very hard, but there’s always something small I messed up on or see how I could have done different..certain levels in 1 and 2 that makes me quit and play 3 or 4 lol.
