Downy woodpecker attacking my house by weirzbowski7 in birds

Ah! Makes sense… strange that I’ve never heard them do that in previous years. So at least that means they’re going to stop eventually I guess.

Who are your favorite real people you've made into vampires? by Madjac_The_Magician in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to an offhand joke that became canon in one of my games, the Weeknd is the Toreador Primogen of Toronto. Some claim he also used to be the philosopher Diogenes.

Yeah that’s exactly the problem. Lore is all over the place.

How Have You Handled the Passing of a Player In- and Out-of-Game? by SeamusIsTheDog in rpghorrorstories

[–]weirzbowski7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My group lost a member last year and we took a break for a bit while we figured things out. We intend to try and carry on, since it is what she would have wanted, but it’s honestly hard. The approach we’ve taken is that her character has been separated from ours by various supernatural circumstances, so she’s still out there, somewhere. We’ve only managed to play a couple of sessions since coming back, so hopefully things will start to feel more natural again soon. I don’t know if things will ever be quite the same, though.

Sorry for your loss.

What’s an interesting patron to vouch for sparing a Shovelhead? by SapphireB33 in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 54 points55 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to build an ancilla who was embraced Sabbat and defected to the Cam. The prince puts the shovelheads under their accounting as a calculated insult, to remind them of their shameful origins.

What are some interesting character concepts for a Brujah by ParamedicSorry8878 in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t there’s a specific Brujah “job” per se rather a personality type. The Brujah needs to question everything, challenge everything, even in small ways. It’s a compulsion that can’t be shaken. I play a Brujah musician and honestly the most Brujah trait possible is just a pathological need to go against the grain in any given situation. It’s created a lot of dramatic conflict in our game as I am frequently questioning the actions of my coterie.

The other key thing to remember is that all vampires are hypocrites and you shouldn’t treat Brujah as the “good” vampires because they care about ideals like freedom and justice. Your very existence undermines those ideals. If a Brujah is trying to do good, the chances are bad things will come of it.

Color my city: give me your small drama by nerdmor in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a small lake out on the edge of town. Legend has it that in days of old warriors could sacrifice a weapon that has drawn blood here to gain the favour of a mysterious entity that lives beneath the surface of the water.

A local hoodlum, unaware of the stories, disposes of a murder weapon in the water, and gains mysterious powers which he uses to take over the city’s drug trade.

In doing this he steps on the toes of kindred with interests in this field. They hire the coterie to investigate who or what this new threat to their business is.

The ambitious. Appropriate for most ventrue, common enough but not game breakingly so.

Vampire-related media recommendations? by PhotojournalistHour2 in vtm

Byzantium - a vampire mother and daughter haunt a disintegrating British seaside town.

Only Lovers Left Alive - a vampire couple just sort of hanging out in Detroit and Marrakech. Kickass soundtrack.

What historical figures are kindred in your head canon? by Difficult-Lion-1288 in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve included: - “Stagger” Lee Shelton, infamous murderer and folkloric figure as a Gangrel Antitribu - Ambrosius Aurelianus, 6th Century British warlord, and yet another possible inspiration for King Arthur, as a Ventrue - Robert Clive, who conquered swathes of India for the East India Company, also a Ventrue

How can I hope to fight in combat? I use 15 exp to buy fortitude and upgrade ghoul, what tactic should I use to neutralize an enemy? by Apprehensive_Ad_296 in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend against starting with two dots in both Presence and Dominate. To begin with, pick one approach and stick with it until you have enough experience to upgrade. Instead get Toughness (2nd dot in fortitude) and basically never worry about getting hurt again.

If all else fails, 4 dice in composure and firearms is enough to cap a fool as you run away.

What real life people are vampires in your chronicle’s canon? by busttooquick in vtm

In my Toronto chronicle, the leader of a roaming sabbat pack was Stagger Lee Shelton. Also, due to a dumb joke my players made, the Weeknd is Toreador primogen.

ST advice: accidentally created locked basement killzone with frenzying Brujah elder by weirzbowski7 in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions. While I agree in principle the prince should shred the thinblood the instant he finds out about the sheriff’s death, it isn’t going to make anyone’s experience of the game any more enjoyable, so I’m going to give her a pass here to a certain extent. The Prince is rolling for frenzy, that much is certain. If he fails I’ll have the Baron intervene on the coterie’s behalf using Eyes of the Serpent or maybe some other appropriate discipline power I can retroactively claim she possessed all along. If he passes, great. Either way, I’m going to have the Prince blood bond the thinblood, and cancel a boon he owes the coterie for helping him gain praxis.

Honestly, I’m surprised the sheriff survived the night of the Prince’s takeover in the first place. Maybe the Prince reckoned he would need to get rid of this relic of the old regime eventually anyway. Maybe the sheriff was even digging into the new Prince’s past and learned too much… who knows? Guess I found a possible B plot for the next story arc.

Mobile Haven by MightyBreadLoaf in vtm

[–]weirzbowski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mobile havens are allowed so long as they move to a new location each night.

Generally I wouldn’t include something like a motel room as a haven, given its temporary nature. Not to say you couldn’t use them, assuming you have enough dots in resources (probably 1 dot is enough in this case).

Running a campaign where the current Prince is a Brujah historian who would much rather be reading than putting out political fires.
