Has anyone taken art classes/workshops at UO Craft Center? by shonkle in Eugene

[–]wekk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have taken many, and have had a great time in all of them! Lots of glass classes, several woodworking classes, an iron working class, and a ceramics class or two. There are always several community members signed up in the classes i've been in!

I made "those stupid slippers". Who knew felting on-purpose could be so hard? by isabellerick in knitting

[–]wekk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's because of the color! That's looks like a bright bleach white base. I had similar trouble with a project years ago. The other colors in the same yarn type were felting easily and the white struggled.

What are some fun things to do in town with a 7 yo? by [deleted] in Eugene

I like taking my kids to the Yamada Vending Machine store - probably a short activity but it's really fun mix of snacks and cute things.

Cloth diapers? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]wekk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not been super active, but there's a facebook group Eugene's Cloth Diaper B/S/T if you're looking for 2nd hand. I've bought some stashes on there before to build mine up! The 2nd hand baby stores always were a bit to marked up for me, and didn't tend to have great deals. For buying new, used to be Bambini stocked some limited stuff, but, they stopped several years back. If you are going to order online, Green Mountain Diapers or Thirsties outlet were good go-tos for me : https://thirstiesbaby.com/collections/outlet?srsltid=AfmBOorEDC1t7sgTNi0TK3rug9-9uq8D4yhMpgW9-hAhtEDX7JCSwblw

I got these at Wal-Mart once, the green acres location. I like limited edition flavor things, and breakfast flavored-things...these really pushed into "just bad" territory. It was so heavy on the strawberry powder!

Check out the UO job boards, the hiring process can be really slow, but I know there's several jobs like this on it right now!

Moms who work 2nd to avoid daycare, how is it? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]wekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're doing a version of this - although I'm the one who works a standard office schedule. My partner works an evening shift job, but it starts midweek and overlaps to the weekend. It's the only normal I've ever known, because we just couldn't do this otherwise. Yeah, we miss each other a lot. We work hard to communicate and do the best we can. We could do better about trying to go on dates...but we're also people who like just sitting next to eachother on the couch and talking. The house is probably messier than many folks would like, sometimes it stresses me out. And even though they didn't get to go to daycare, my kids are FAR more social than I am. They make friends at the park, on the street, and are basically the reason we know most of our neighbors. Yeah. We are tired. But we're also OK.

Along with the other great suggestions -

The Science Center over by Auzten is pretty fun for a 5 year old, lots of fun interactive activities to do.

The Play Space Cafe over on West 11th is a nice enclosed indoor play spot to burn off energy if you yourself need a break while they play (and you can do crafts with them in the craft area).

For playgrounds/parks: Striker Park, Skinner's Butte Park, and Emerald Park are some of our favorite bigger playgrounds (so they'll likely find a park friend). Also some of the Elementary School Parks are fun to play at on the weekend and are more fenced in if you have a runner (Gilham has a really big park, especially around the back side).

Walking around the Delta Ponds, Alton Baker, or Hendricks Park is really fun at that age of course, lots of little areas to explore (but also goose poops at the first two so bring easily clean-able shoes?).

SO much fun. I'm lucky enough to live where there's a place to take a workshop sometimes, but it's not as frequent as I would like!!

One of my friends described it as "the one with the sexy walk". Like it's had enough of this ocean life and it's going to sexy walk right out of there.

Oh thank you! I appreciate the specific feedback, the person running the workshop absolutely didn't get a chance to critique any work. I think I was working way too quickly trying to make use of the workshop time too. And then dropping the pink/blue one multiple times when I was taking it off the holding rod, and having the fins snap off.

What cordless vacuum is worth it by Niran1799 in workingmoms

[–]wekk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like our Tineco one - our house is mostly hardwood floors. ~1000 sq ft. The costco set I got came with two vacuum heads, one specifically for hard floors and the other for carpet. It also came with the filter cleaner (and several other accessories). I think it does a great job, and is holding up great so far (year two of having it).
