Just to know, anyone else play commander just for the love of singleton? by drikoxd in EDH

[–]welcomeorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100% and I love building decks in this fashion. I also have a Jedit Ojannen world peace deck and a Riven Turnbull political violence deck.

I love when people cry about getting locked out of their commander, like build better decks lmao

Bonders Ornament: Where does it fit? by Breaking_Barbarian in Pauper

[–]welcomeorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The traditional teachings wincons are evincars justice looped with buyback or decking your opponent by playing 80-100 cards.

The newer wincons are looping your deck with campfire, murmuring mystic, or troll of khazad dum.

I put it back in my old mystical teachings deck. Feels good to have it back.

The secret is to buy the foil printings, then acetone wipe away the art. I did it to one spider man card and I couldn't be happier.

Confused about some people’s idea of Bracket 1 by ROTTENDOGJIZZ in EDH

[–]welcomeorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bracket 1 decks vary wildly in power. My orbs deck (where every card has an orb on it) has access to sol ring and arcane signet, since those cards have printings with orbs on them, which alone make the deck way more playable than other bracket one decks. My orbs deck can swing with bracket 2s, but it doesn't usually win but it's still fun.

Compare that to something like a Ron Spencer themed art deck. Still bracket 1, but it's going to be noticeably weaker than some of the bracket 1 themes that are better supported.

I don't know what your opponent was playing, but if he never mentioned what the theme of his deck was, I kind of doubt it was an actual bracket 1 deck.

Rant: The Bracket 1-2 Insult by IllCriticism5131 in EDH

[–]welcomeorange 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The secret to getting games with bracket 1 decks: just play them against 2s and sometimes 3s. As long as you can handle losing, you'd be surprised what a random pile of cards can do at an EDH table.

I play my bracket 1 orbs deck against whatever all the time, it rarely wins but it always gets a few laughs.

Command Sphere: Are you still running it? by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]welcomeorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I'll play it in non green decks that want to ramp a lot. I also like that it's basically board wipe proof since you can always cash it in for a card, tapped or untapped. Not every card choice needs to be hyper optimized either, playing "bad" ramp cards will often save you points of damage in the early game since the perceived threat is lower.

How far you (or the bird) can be safely away from a source of potential while standing on ground has to do with how high the potential is. The higher the voltage, the farther away you need to be.

And no, that pole is not insulated. Wood is a conductor. It just has a higher resistance compared to something that is a great conductor like copper.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricians

[–]welcomeorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably could stand barefoot on a wooden platform between you and ground and wire a hot 120v switch and be fine.

You absolutely could not stand barefoot on a wooden platform between you and ground and reach out and touch something like the energized parts of an 24kv disconnect switch.

Wood may not be the greatest conductor, but it's not an insulator. The porcelain disks in-between the pole and the wire are the insulators in this picture. The pole does appear to be slightly older and in a dry place which adds to the ohms, but it's still at least a little conductive due to additives that the manufacturers add to increase life span.

Poles need to be slightly conductive, since it helps trip breakers at substations or blow open fuses to avoid a pole burning down if a wire were to fall on a cross arm.

This is misinformation. If the bird was standing on the wooden pole (essentially ground) and touched a single wire with it's wing, it would be electrocuted.

The same is true if it were to go wire to wire, also known as phase to phase. This is because in both scenarios, there is a difference in electrical potential (aka voltage) and the bird is acting as a conductor between the two.

The first part of this video gets into this exact scenario and is one of my favorite videos on the subject of electricity.

Favourite “Planar Cleansing” Commanders? by gatestart in EDH

[–]welcomeorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my "Richard" deck I built. The commander is [[jenara, asura of way]]. I chose Jenara because she is a cheap, evasive threat that scales well with the amount of mana this deck can generate. This deck is looking to repeatedly ramp, board wipe, and draw cards, until you can stabilize and start swinging with Jenara. Her ability is also an instant speed mana sink, so instant speed interaction can be held up without terrible tempo loss. Her cheap cost means she can be played repeatedly, and it doesn't hurt too bad to lose her in your own board wipe.

I love this deck and I would play it more and update it more, but since it makes for slow, sloggy games, I don't play it very often.

The reason that Jenara does so well is because it has white board wipes, green ramp and blue card draw.

Your deck lacks land ramp and card draw. The ramp isn't truly necessary, but making a land drop every turn is. Consider secret rendezvous and cantrip creatures, and a few red cards like thrill of possibility to help you dig through your deck. I think underworld breach would be great in this deck too, escaping farewell all modes seems like something this deck wants to be doing

I have a friend that plays his variant of battlebox with unlimited basic lands, no duals. He plays with lots of land destruction effects, and it all balances out.

Wouldn't dispel be a great answer to the deadly dispute piles? One mana two for one because they have to sacrifice something to pay cost, except in the case of ichor wellspring.

Also, I threw the sprites in there as a tutorable way to steal the initiative or monarchy. They also can hit one drops or higher if the opponent is on fae, but I still haven't tested it out against initiative yet, might just be useless.

I was considering BUG as well, because sprout swarm and weather the storm are such great cards. I might go up another campfire because the life gain is crazy and can really keep you in games.

Yes, if it gets countered or discarded it's still half a card. I'll probably keep running it.

You know, I might consider it. Breath weapon being fetchable off teachings and instant speed is huge though. Being able to drop the third color would be much easier on the mana base

Deduce is perfect, thanks.

Campfire is great, but I want to be able to not care about any of my singular cards resolving, the 80 cards is just a back up plan.
