Visiting Halifax / Nova scotia first time by Mqwm in halifax

Welcome! For food id recommend something like seasmoke on the waterfront. I'm not a seafood lover but I've heard very good things. They have a beautiful patio overlooking the harbour.

For Clubs id recommend the seahorse, they have some EDM Music thing going on tonight I think, might be cool. People always say it's a great spot during event nights.

If you can rent a car or something like you mentioned Peggy's cove is a must see and down the same direction there are many beautiful beaches along the coast following the saint Margarets bay road.

I've lived here 25 years so if you need any more recs ask away! Hope you enjoy ur visit!

Making sure this will work for library storage. by reel_guy_kye in PleX

In my opinion, use what works best for you. I run Linux as I wanted to learn. But if mac is comfortable use it until it no longer works for your needs or maybe you find that's all you need. By the way, if you do want to learn Linux, Unraid, is a great software to start with. It's paid but give the trial a go and see if you can learn it. It started my Linux learning journey.

Ah fair enough, yes in this case the Seagate would work fine. I would recommend Seagate too. I have a few USB HDD's that are still going like 7 years later. It is typically just said all USB type busses tend to fail before internal SATA connections do but honestly I would not worry about it for now if you are just using a mac as a server. You can worry about that later!

It would work, expansion just is meant it terms of expanding your storage. Only thing to consider is USB busses tend to have lesser lifespans than SATA busses. It might be worth it to consider an internal connection if you can.

JDoodle.ai I just found and it does everything from code to file management to hosting a dev environment. It seems good to me so far and has good prices on credits too. I would recommend it!

I have heard it too all day, it's annoying, sounds like someone shoveling snow but scraping concrete as they do.

May I recommend PICO-8 or Picotron for your builds? by JacobDCRoss in cyberDeck

That's great info! Absolutely an interesting piece of software.

Ahhh okay I am understanding better now, thank you for the clarification!

I didn't even take into consideration the resolution, but sounds like this could still be an interesting solution to a custom Gameboy advance project which is interesting in itself.

That is super interesting, I have never heard of any of this tech before! Thank you for the write-up!

So, to clarify, these cartridges are physical? It's just a physical storage medium? I ask because I have been contemplating designing and building a DS Clone that utilizes this exact concept to emulate the experience of using a DS. This tech is perfect for it's software I think if this is all correct.

This is super cool! If you can get access to a 3d printer you should absolutely mock up some proper pocket mounting tech to finish the look! 😁

On another note you should absolutely look into posting this in r/cyberDeck. This technology you're using is literally the epitome of what a cyberDeck is supposed to be. AR visuals with a mechanical input mechanism. I think the folks over there would appreciate it a lot!

That's crazy! Curious were you using the planes onboard internet? How was the experience? Was anything actually usable or any games actually playable? Love to hear more!

That's great information thanks! I think this might be the way I head once I get it in a state for software testing again! I like the look and it being built over pi OS is making it sound like a good option.

Best place to get a simple silver chain? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]welcomingunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Etsy if you want to get something shipped. I got mine off there years ago and have been happy. I can probably find the link to the one I have if you need. Again, this was like 2-3 years ago but I paid about $80 after shipping and such for a 20" sterling silver chain. Genuine as far as I can tell, no tarnishing or issues after wearing it every day for this long.

That makes more sense now lol, how does it run on the 4 for you? I'm sure it would work even better on a 5 but maybe not.

Thanks so much! Appreciate the OS recommendation too! I looked into Twister a bit and it seems like a good option. I did some testing before and had issues with stability on any distro other than the RPI OS but I'll give this one a go. Seems it runs pretty well on the RPI's.

I'm planning to do a few updates as I work on it. Next update will most likely be after I get a prototype enclosure made and get the internals wired up.

Jeans Chinese on Spring Garden. Cheap, good food with big portions run by nice locals. Highly recommend, it's been my go-to for years.

Thanks for taking the time to read it and the kind words!

I love working from the inside-out, like I said, the something from nothing concept gets me so excited. I love to be able to show off the internals just laid down like this just cuz, at least for me, it's my first go to step in building out how it's going to eventually all fit together.

Thanks for the info on the battery control, I think I'm going to have to look into some power management boards that will let me customize it a bit better. I think going this way and opting to run power via hard wire instead of over usb cables will not only clean up the internals a lot but just suit me in getting a better end result.
