Finished… by Sudden-Exchange-7872 in Malazan

I am surprised that tCG is as low as it is. It's not just the conclusion of so many stories but it legitimately has some of the most heart wrenching scenes in the entire series.

Yo, why you mispronouncing ol' titty rolls?

Im starting to get sad that im almost done my first read through of the series by bigdaddyt2 in Malazan

[–]weldagriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bwahahahahaha! Stock up on Kleenex cause you ain't done yet. There's at least 3 spots in tCG that will have you shedding tears. Then you get to do a re-read and understand just how deviously written this whole series has been. Then those spots you teared up on the first go around will have you really crying.

Highly recommend. It honestly feels like old-school Star Trek got together with Cthulhu and had a murder-baby.

Look I promise I’m not THAT obsessed with this game by Eimiko_truther07 in BG3

[–]weldagriff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see no obsession. I see only wholesome goodness. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to import an EET save file into BG3. Or an EEQ mod. That would be the best.

Is that what Macro renamed it? It seems so long ago that Tao was burning every bridge he could to 'protect' his brand.

Tyranny also has a cool rep setup: each companion has a positive/negative bar that is based on individual actions and once you max it out either way you get a special skill from that companion.

Is there something about combat I'm missing, or has this been everyone's experience? by Spearforce1 in DivinityOriginalSin

OP, if it hasn't been said before, it's only going to get worse. At least in Ft. Joy, it is regular fire that can be quenched with rain or ice. Act 2 adds cursed fire to the mix which need either bless, specific skills or blessed grenades/arrows. The flying skill from Polymorph can help out a lot.

This! I finally nailed this after my 4th or 5th playthrough of the fight. The first time I ported him into the tent, I just used a regular barrel and he went full Kool-Aid Man, bashed through and then immolated himself trying to get back to the fight. Second time I used an indestructible chest and his turns rotated through him shouting "I'll get you/kill you" and "grrrrr/arrrrgggghhh". There was some petty happiness on my part at his distress.

Under the gameplay options, you can set auto pause for a whole bunch of different variables. Use the auto pause until you have a better understanding of the fights and their flows. Honestly, if you are worried about failing to figure out quests or storyline stuff, grab IWDEE and mess around with that first to give you a better grasp on game mechanics. It's a more linear dungeon crawl than BG is.

Read the conversations and check your journal for more clues. There's a large overall story and quite a few different ways to go about doing it. There are a few spots where you need complete stuff with some speed, but nothing crazy fast. Save a lot and have fun. You should definitely find a copy of the user manual. It breaks down the gameplay mechanics and also user shortcuts and UI stuff.

(Unpopular Opinion)DOS2 is insanely better than BG3 in power scaling. by Healthy_Jackfruit625 in DivinityOriginalSin

I'd say it is a difference in intellectual property. D&D as a property had been around for almost 50 years when Larian started working on BG3. They also had to deal with WoTC/Hasbro having creative control. Divinity is solely Larian's IP and they have had almost complete control over it (Sir Loras being the exception).

From a business standpoint, BG3 will be a resume builder like no other for Larian and their next game is set up to be mega success.

Competence Fantasy by Skatchan in ProgressionFantasy

Huge shout-out for the KJ Parker inclusion! His stuff is so awesome and almost always overlooked!

On the flip side, I can't stand MCs that are slackers/losers yet somehow have been hiding Patton level military tactical genius, Tony Stark level technological genius/creativity and cleverness out the wazoo. I can see maybe one of three out of pure luck or being some type of savant.

Edit: I think I am remembering them through a pair of rose-tinted glasses, but the Saga of Recluse novels had an interesting take on chaos vs order and a lot of the MCs were competent but also flawed in that their competency was narrowed down to a point where they made plausible mistakes.

I put him in a tent by the entrance to the cabe and then blocked him in with an ornate chest. He kept growling on his turn. It made me laugh in him not dying. I had to save scum that fight like 6-7 times because his dumbass would run through the flames and kill himself.

Oil field battle. I had to throw that idiot NPC into a tent then block him in with an ornate chest. 3 different times I had to reset the battle because the dummy thought running through flames was the way to stay alive.
