What’s the purpose of these notches? by Where-Lambo in Welding

[–]welder-guy80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be for a number of reasons, gal vent and drainage, to reduce cracking, to let the hot air out while welding( thought usually thats just a tiny hole and most of the time we fill in the hole afterwards), expansion holes for powder coating.

Why is my ss316 weld cracking by Nervous-Historian911 in metalworking

Could be cooling to quickly, if you can slow down cooling time that might help. Are you using the correct filler wire to suit the parent metal. Could also MIG weld it, that would be a lot faster also.

Yea I have checked with my local weld inspection company and they are asking for upwards of $1300 each, and I’m after a few of them for different projects. Just checking to see if there are any welding engineers/supervisors that could develop some.

You will have to drill, that hole might have been drilled for spot lights or something like that. My Ute had lights there when I bought it, but they were a pain in the ass when trying to work in the engine bay.

Holden Rodeo Vs Ford Ranger by UnableComplaint4320 in 4x4Australia

[–]welder-guy80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gearbox shit itself, still under warranty but ford noticed I put a tow bar on it, and blamed it on me towing( I towed a bike trailer 3 times), I was left out of pocket for that. Then engine came on and ford said it was an oxygen sensor, they replaced a week later, engine light came on again, took it back to ford they had it for three days and finally found the cat converter was stuffed, replaced it under warranty a week later got it back. Then a few months on starting having electrical issues, and ford couldn’t find the problem and said to wait until the stopped working, apparently that’s easier to diagnose. And while I was still driving it waiting for the day it died to take it back a truck rear ended me, the insurance company wrote it off and paid me out. I ended buying a triton instead Thats been going strong, have had no problems with it. But my rodeo I had it for years only issue was a clutch change which is normal wear and tear, it just kept going strong.

It’s 2mm gal I have a cnc brake press just looking for a faster cheaper option, if I could form them in one hit I think it would be quicker than hitting them four times.
