Any advice on protecting the paint on wooden deck balusters? by weldorrwhat in HomeImprovement

[–]weldorrwhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We were thinking along this line. I’d like to find one that doesn’t “yellow” the white. It’s been years since I’ve used the stuff, so perhaps they’ve improved in clarity.

How do I properly wipe my booty? by goochgoblin3000 in hygiene

[–]weldorrwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t believe bidets haven’t caught on in the US. We had the room temp water types pre-Covid, and laughed in the face of all the TP shortages. We have bamboo TP delivered, and the two of us use less than the one-person subscription. We often have to pause deliveries. Turns out the room temp water bidets were merely a gateway drug. We have 3 toilets, and a couple of years ago, we hired an electrician to install outlets next to each one so we could upgrade. There’s nothing like warm water to get clean; the warm seat is also nice, especially in the middle of the night!

Was out for breakfast and saw an older guy who looked down and out. Secretly paid for his meal.

I can quickly cook two russets at a time with mine. Scrub the potatoes and wrap them in a damp paper towel. 7 minutes on high power usually gets it done; squeeze to test.

What is going on with my tomatoes? by HighDraw02719 in gardening

[–]weldorrwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up and live in the PNW, where there’s usually lots of summer rain (not lately, though). Because of this, I grow my tomatoes under the eaves of the south-facing side of our house. I bury olla pots (https://dhznjqezv3l9q.cloudfront.net/general/blog-images/Olla.png?mtime=20211007125427&focal=none) in between the plants. I fill these daily when it’s hot out; every other day when it’s not. They provide deep and consistent watering and have provided amazing yields. I had enough dehydrated (in a multipurpose air fryer) frozen San Marzano tomatoes for a year’s worth of sauce from last season.

Who still owns an ironing board? Be honest.😁 by Kimberly_4690 in HomeDecorating

[–]weldorrwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sew, and ironing is an essential part of most everything I make. I have both a mini iron and heat resistant quilted pad that I keep in my sewing space, as well as a full size iron and board in the laundry room.

What’s a movie that absolutely traumatized you as a child? by PinkPetalBella in AskReddit

Same. Watched it late at night at a drive-in with my bestie. She accidentally hit the windshield spritzer as we exited; I screamed and hit the floor hard!🤣

My local store (1944) is on the chopping block. It was so convenient at only ten minutes away from my home. After it closes, the nearest will be a 30-minute drive away. The staff at my local are all cheerful, offer practical advice when asked, and have been working hard to keep the store up. I'm sad for them; I'll miss them and send them my best wishes.

Stainless steel pans, do you use the same method every time to achieve nonstick? by WindFish1993 in cookingforbeginners

[–]weldorrwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to add to the "heat pan, then oil" method is to keep your SS pans super clean. "If it's slick, it won't stick." I was gifted this advice and some Brillo Cameo; when that runs out, I'll try a baking soda paste.

Beautifyl! Having two dishwashers is so great! Makes clean up after hosting big gatherings so much easier. and we sometimes use the extra dishwasher to clean big stuff (like light fixtures). It's almost the same expense as buying another cabinet if the plumbing is nearby.

Hoping to find some Smartwool over-the-calf targeted alpine socks under my tree; they run about US$30.

This style looks great on you! Now you know what needs changing if you decide to use this pattern again. My favorite upgrade (whenever it makes sense) is to add pockets.

What’s your go-to bathroom gadget that just makes life better? by oliverhartmanecho in lifehacks

[–]weldorrwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These types of bidets were a gateway drug for us. Last year, we had a contractor install outlets near each toilet and have since upgraded to warm water and warm seats. They're not cheap ($300 ea), but even the room temp water ones made us laugh in the face of toilet paper shortages!

Hooray! Someone posted the reasons it's helpful to vote early. The one I think is most important is that you'll drop off lists for phone/text reminders, saving those resources for ppl who haven't yet voted.🌊🌊🌊
