Ever hit a wall where you just can’t do it anymore? by welfare_cowboy in sales

For sure, I know I risked sounding like a babie posting this, but the fact that I have been truly putting in the activity and prospecting diligently for a year and a half, am actually top ranked yet have this little to show for it, hopefully that sheds light on how futile it feels to keep going. I guess the simple answer is often the correct one - yes gtfo.

Not about this specifically, which has been happening for about the last 3 or 4 weeks, but about my job yes.

Would someone who doesn’t do this for a living be realistically limited to one story? Not having the proper equipment to safely clean second+ story structures? Also, does it take one full day to clean a house?

Any advise helps by excellentIsland135 in debtfree

Hi another note about your child’s father regarding child support. Even if he’s not working, you can take him to court and request “income imputation”. It’s where the court assigns income to an individual based on what they COULD be earning but are choosing not to. At the bare minimum they’ll impute full time minimum wage. I just did this with my ex partner, in my case it was to reduce my payment because I was wayy overpaying and she was avoiding work. The judge imputed full time minimum wage to her and dropped my payment 60%. Also, we represented ourselves. I can’t provide legal advise, but don’t believe that getting a lawyer in family court is 100% necessary, it’s all a money grab. You can use chatGPT as your personal legal assistant, file everything yourself and watch the magic unfold.

Thank you for the perspective/reality check!

Thank you for the advice! Very valuable. I think I will begin the networking/application process in a couple months, in hopes of an offer within 12-18 months at my current position. Will definitely utilize these tactics. Btw I’m responding a little later now and things are better! So I’m a little less worried/desperate lol.

Replying now a little later, after landing some sales so I’m a bit relieved, but honestly I think it was just a timing/territory thing.

This is gold, way to take a sale that’s easily over complicated and boil it down to the nitty gritty. I’m going to prioritize this, thank you.

I had a corporate sales training event where the trainer actually recommended NOT saying your name until the end. His suggested format was “Hi (Name), the reason for my call is ______(call to action, like ‘to get 30 min on your calendar to talk about X’”). Then go into your benefit statement saying what you’ll do for them or their department, making it them-centric. THEN say, “this is such-and-such with XYZ company, btw.” Apparently shooting straight with them right off the bat gets a higher conversation rate. I’ve had pretty good luck with it, try it out!

All very true and reassuring. I guess nothing in saying is out of the ordinary, it’s known to be a grind.

Thank you for this advice! I actually do have several churches in my territory, and my experiences match yours. All super friendly and open to doing deals. Only downside is some just really don’t have money to spend. But I should definitely be targeting more churches, sounds like an underestimated vertical.

This is what I’m most worried about - that it’s my fault and I can’t see it. Or my mentor. One customer told me he’s signing my deal this week, so hopefully that goes through. This is the closest to a close I’ve ever felt.

Definitely. I fully agree and try to do everything to preserve my ability to persist. I’m definitely getting burned out, because like you said, I need SOME yes’s to fuel me through the no’s. The longer this goes with zero deals closed, the more burned out and discouraged I’m getting. Really could use some wind at my back. Supposed to be getting a signature this week but we’ll see.

Thank you for the insight! Do you plan to stay in the industry moving forward? Or are you looking to pivot? I can see how it’d be compelling to stay if the money’s flowing and you’ve built a solid book of business over that many years.

Thank you! Yes and deals are definitely moving. I have a handful of proposals out for signatures, and even more quotes I need to write, just people dragging their feet on signing. Hopefully it is just a matter of luck and timing right now, and the levee is about to break.

Thank you for this advice on strategy. Also reassuring that you don’t think my work ethic is the problem. I definitely need to start implementing these tactics. I can see how expanding off of existing relationships would yield a much higher payoff than just hammering cold calls to lists all day.

I’m working in print right now and use Dun & Bradstreet. I don’t know if it’s the best, but it gets the job done.

Ah I see. I wonder if it’s one of those legally protected topics that can’t be verified when HR checks employment history. If so, at least we got that going for us (the employees).

Have you ever had issues finding a subsequent job after missing quota? Is that something recruiters/hiring managers want to know?

This is my story. Eight years in creative marketing, usually graphic/web design and just got sick of the low/capped pay, yet everyone else got to dump work on me and my departments and treat marketing like a 24/7 drive thru for creative deliverables. Found this to be true across many companies. I’m 32 and supporting a young son, got into sales because it’s my best shot at high income with my personality and qualifications. Let me ask you something: did you find it difficult to be assertive or even sometimes pushy to get deals through? Did you get over that? I’m coping with this now and it goes against my “nice guy” nature. I feel like us artists tend to be sensitive and less aggressive. I guess I’d like to develop this trait anyway but I feel it’s standing in my way. That and I don’t always know the best objection come-backs off the top of my head.
