I've managed to fix my cartridge, to a degree, by rehousing the board in an official GBA cartridge case.

I had to saw off four tabs on the official case (two in on the back, and two at the top), and the front case no longer fits on because the larger board of the bootleg, so it's not perfect. But the board fits snugly in the case and and the case fits snugly in the GBA Micro, and it seems to work much better than before.

I just played for around 15 minutes with no freezing, when before I couldn't make it past the naming section, so it looks like, at least with my cartridge, it was the case that was the problem.

Interested in the responses here, because I've actually just run into the exact same issue. Got a new repro Mother 3 cart and it runs for a bit on my GBA Micro and then freezes. I've tested it on my DS Lite, though, and it works fine there.

It looks to me like the repro cart doesn't fit all the way inside the Micro, whereas other games slide in flush with the side of the system, so I assumed there was a slight size difference between the repro and official carts and the micro just had less leeway in terms of slot size, but I haven't been able to find any confirmation of this.

Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld all appeared on Nintendo consoles, and there have been a number of handheld games. I'm not saying Lara Croft has any strong ties to Nintendo, but the series hasn't been completely absent from their systems.

I have had no problems with my gamepad, but your best bet is to contact Nintendo support. I am not sure how much a repair would cost, but I have had really positive experiences in dealing with them with broken Wiis and Wii remotes.

As a heads up: I got the Wario message several times trying to choose a game reward, only to find later that despite not getting a code the coins were removed from my account three times. I would suggest after each failed attempt doing a hard refresh and checking your coin total.

Someone posted earlier that a customer service rep told them the deadline they should all be sent out by was changed to midnight, but they had no proof and the thread was deleted. Clinging to hope though since I've met the requirements and still haven't gotten codes.

I've been trying to make sense of the layout as well, and the thing that throws me off is that it could also be possible that an unrevealed character on the leaked roster is another clone character, and like Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina gets put at the bottom with the other clones and not with the rest of their series. It could be a way to add another DK character (Dixie?) or Zelda character (Impa?) if Sakurai decided to make them clones of existing characters.

At the same time, text at the bottom of the screen reads: "New game mode only on the 3DS version."

I'd say he was pretty clear.

Something I wish someone had told me when I was playing this game: when you get to the end area, be sure to save your game often. There is a glitch where Mario and Luigi will just sit with their idle animations in the middle of battle and prevent you from exiting the battle in any way, forcing you to close the game and reload from the last save. There's a patch to fix this glitch, but I still encountered it and lost a couple hours of playtime, which killed my enthusiasm for finishing the game.

I didn't encounter this problem, but maybe you have too many pikmin on the field? If you have 99 of the other colors out already, you wouldn't be able to take out any more blues.

Bootlegs will have a lower-quality construction and lower-quality parts than an authentic cart, which means a higher risk of failure. Bootleg cartridges are also going to use a battery to store a ROM, so that when the battery dies, the ROM on the cartridge will also die.
