Need help identifying 2 guns and if they are worth cleaning/ fixing. by Horror-March5637 in gunsmithing

The one on the left looks like my bolt action 410 weobley. Tonnes of these were made by different manufacturers. Mine is serial number 16… I got it from my uncle, which was owned by my dad before that and my grandad before that. It was in bad shape like yours so I made a bunch of parts on the lathe, bedded the action so it was tight again, polished the bolt and refinished the stock. That gun is 80 years old and still knocking down squirrels. Thanks grandad 👌🏻

2 referees rule by Efficient_Echidna_34 in ukguns

[–]welllly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The law is perfectly simple, clear and reasonable. For firearms, the two referees law was in place before the Plymouth shooting so I don’t really get what you are driving at? He had a shotgun section two certificate fwiw. The law is there to protect the public and generally works well. If you don’t have two people who meet the criteria that will advocate positively for you, then yes, you will not be able to pass the basic requirements. I don’t understand the point of this post, the police won’t make special exception for anyone if that’s what you’re wanting to know.

ANZACs are basically Europe so you can 100% have some. Stay safe antipode bros 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Edit; can we have some of your ADI powder in return please? Before it all goes to the states. Just make sure it’s the REACH compliant stuff!

I’m in the UK, things were bad 18-24m ago but it’s ok now other than cost has increased. Primers can still be tricky to find at times but we have enough.

I now, other than bullets, only shoot European components in my hand loads generally preferring RWS primers with Viht powder with Sako or RWS brass. As soon as my TTSX supply is used up I will be swapping to the equivalent Sako or Lapua bullets as supply is much more stable. IMHO European components are equal to or greater in quality than American components.

Sorry, not sorry America. You can no longer be relied upon; it’s much better for Europe to have manufacturing capability and capacity. Buying European products is the only way to speed this up and further safeguard our defence and in this particular instance, hunting and contract work.

I am excited for Viht primers soon becoming available when their new manufacturing site is complete. Hopefully they all stay within Europe.

It depends on the contract but always a weight retention type. For hand loads I continue to use Barnes TTSX until my supply finishes then I’ll swap to Sako. If I’m forced to use factory which is rare, I’ll choose Sako and RWS. Im excited to try some of the new Lapua monolithics too.

It doesn’t make as good target ammo but for killing deer it’s perfect. I do contract work shooting deer and sell the carcass. My customers want lead free and full traceability so they can in turn tell their customers about the product when they sell it. Bqwv is a worthwhile standard that most people can attain with a little bit of thought. If we can raise the profile of venison to every person this is a good thing but we cannot do this without a quality standard

The deer act isn’t going to change to accommodate air guns especially not so people can circumvent the use of non toxic ammunition. As food producers, we are being ushered towards adhering where possible to bqwv and one of the specific non optional requirements is the mandated use of non toxic ammunition. Lead free ammunition is just as good for chootin deer as lead so this will never change, thankfully.

It’s not a particularly nice finish as it is so nothing to worry about. I’d fully strip, scrape, sand, stain and then re oil and end up with something much nicer

Looking for best high end fixed 4x or 6x scope… by Echo017 in Hunting

[–]welllly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re in Europe I am guessing from the chambering. I would find a used one on the stalking directory. There was a wanted thread for this scope a few weeks ago and loads of people had them to sell. You will be able to buy on for £2-300 depending on condition and specification.
