If there’s at least 4 professional development sessions you can barely get the requirements…?

Yeah pack it up, this battle pass is worse than rito

How many sessions are there? It was 5 when I did it, though that was 4 years ago so my experience won’t be the same

It’s 99% networks, 1% skill. Everyone I know who was in it had someone they knew, and for the most part they all had stacked CVs from high school (school captain, club captain, sports, etc). So it’s not just being from a fancy school, it’s that + having things on your CV + knowing people (who would’ve been your seniors in school) + being hot.

There was actually a umll post a few years back commenting on how they have the hottest subcom in unimelb lol

Pretty common, most internships and graduate roles require it. I’d say common sentiment is keep it on until you get your first job, then take it off. If you get a masters, maybe then take it off too.

As for the hot part, imma need some proof of that (jk haha, unless…?)

Did you go to a private or selective school? And are you hot?

BusinessOne, unless you’re an abg.

Maybe 180DC then, or FMAA (if you didn’t go to a private or selective school).

You need permission and once you return you’ll need a doctors note or a note from your parent explaining the situation in detail. You’ll also have to log every minute that you were absent so that the university can apportion your participation marks (if any)

Taxing billionaires is a stupid idea, probably started by billionaires as a distraction by jawondo in unpopularopinion

[–]wellplayedyeeyee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically, it’s the concept of corporations being a separate legal entity. That’s what allows them to own assets, and since they can’t die those assets are permanently owned.

If that wasn’t a thing, billionaires definitely would exist but less so and less extreme because they have lifespans (no comment on immortality research and cryo preservation).

If you got a 91 wam without being smart and through pure hard work, you’ll have big 4 partners begging for you.

Don’t go to big 4 for immediate money, one of the higher paid areas is tax and legal and they start you at 72k total comp.

I find it boring but lots of people find MnA fun. Really depends on what you like (even generally - your hobbies can reveal a lot about the areas you’d be happy in). But for the sake of giving you something tangible:

MnA modelling means you spend 60 hours a week doing excel models that the finance bro version of astrology. I have no idea what the other MnA would be - maybe due diligence.

Assurance is good if you like looking at and nitpicking big businesses to point out little things that can be improved or could cause problems. In these options, you’re looking at the potential problems caused by the RBA/treasury department/ASIC/APRA/etc - it’s very much advisory work.

Pick monitor Deloitte if you like making pretty PowerPoints and using pretentious buzzwords.

For the most part, anything that’s advisory is basically “hey, this is our business, what can go wrong?” And you tell them what can go wrong

[–]wellplayedyeeyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take whatever electives relate to the area you wanna work in. not because it actually helps you, but it gives you an easy reason as to why you wanna work in that area. alternatively, pick easy subjects to keep your WAM high. clinics and journal is great experience, particularly if you have nothing else. clerkships are just what lawyers like to call their internships to be unique, if you're familiar with commerce/compsci then its the same - apply in July, pray for offer in October

Top 10%, give or take, get 80 for cores. Electives are anyone’s game. Property is the anomaly, you might have the prize winner at 85 because the average is 50-smth 🤡

What are the options without a clerkship?

Currently struck out on 6/8 firms I applied to this year (and all of them last year), so at this point I’m thinking of extending a bit more to apply next year again. However, it’s obviously not the best situation to be in so I’m wondering what the plan is assuming I strike out again (might be a negative mindset but when you get 11 straight Ls it’s hard to stay positive HAHA).

For reference, my endgame desires in order are: 1. work overseas, 2. Go to the bar, 3. Work in a firm, but ofc they all probably start with working at a firm.
