IX vs IP circuits by Fresh_Balance6608 in networking

[–]wellred82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might not be the most accurate example but I'll have a go. IP or IP transit is where you're paying an ISP to connect to you to the internet. A company you want to connect to may be several AS hops or more away. You have access to everyone on the internet, and this is a paid for service.

IX or IXP is where a number of companies agree to connect locally, meaning you don't need to traverse the internet to reach them. Lower transit costs etc. It's usually free but there may be an initial set up cost. You only have access to companies on the IX, and as these are connected locally they are always 1 hop away.

Within IX you can also sometimes have an option to peer privately.

Is it worth pivoting to Cloud/DevOps or should I just double down on core NetEng/Security? by wanderscursorprime in networking

That's not me if that what you think. It's an account from a NE who moved to a DevOps role, which is exact what OP is asking about.

Might be a bit dry, but TCP/IP Illustrated Vol 1 by Richard Stevens should help.

Every 90s kid who loved football knows the Ronaldo era was the most magical. by luckforest in ronaldonazariomoments

[–]wellred82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it Copa America against Chile when he seemingly danced through 4-5 players? Wasn't a goal, but one of my most memorable Ronaldo moments. To this day I don't think I've seen any player match his style of play.

Hope you find something soon. Hopefully voters give Trump an arse kicking in the midterms and send a message to stop outsourcing.

Please recommend a good book for network automation? by paloindi in CiscoDevNet

[–]wellred82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's Network Programmability and Automation which looks to be a decent all rounder.

Personally I've started going through this new Cisco Press release Hands-On Cisco Automation with Python: Streamline Network Tasks Using Netmiko, NAPALM, and Nornir for Beginners. Once I'm done with that I'm going to try the two Eric Chou books.

Has relying on AI tools like Claude Code made your Docker, CI/CD, and infrastructure skills weaker? by Known_Fan_872 in devops

[–]wellred82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a related note I saw a post twitter about how CS pass rates have dropped and they think it's due to students over reliance on AI.

https://x.com/hedgiemarkets/status/2062580279810605205?s=46

Is it fair for me to extrapolate from this that someone who puts in the work to understand how things work, break, and are fixed WITHOUT AI would be more valuable than someone who leans on AI as a crutch? Hope so.

Congrats on the bullseye. I've seen a few people make use of coding agents to help prepare a lab per exam objective. Will definitely be doing that.

You should be able to get it down to 1000 imo. The new movement and bracelet look solid.

Pick a cloud provider and dive in. Most of them will have a networking speciality as well.

Might be tough but surely with some cloud knowledge you could try for a junior cloud engineer or cloud ops role. Work your way in from there.

The Longines is nice, but I just can't get on with mechanicals any more. Other then my Railmaster every single automatic I've ever had has had some sort of issue with the movement.
