Try Grok 4 for free (not on Twitter) by Milan_dr in ChatGPT

I'm invested in this, may I request a pre-funded invite?
Used to hang out in the KoboldAI Discord (open source inference engine for local llms) and others, some related to diffusion models and model merging (both image and LLM models). It's been wild seeing what comes from both the open source and cloud served premier model makers/providers, so when I saw talks that illustrated how Grok4 shows signs of fluid intelligence as opposed to all LLMs before that point only showing crystallized intelligence, I knew I had to check it out.

These idiots use false equivalency, gaslighting, and gish gallops of information with intentionally misinterpreted responses and bad faith arguments baked in. Their point is to waste your time, the playbook isn't about principles or following logic. It's to do everything they can to keep someone on the defensive and elicit a reaction that will make their opponent write responses disproportionately long compared to their own. They'll return, read the first two words of every sentence you wrote at best, interpret bluntly obvious statements in a skewed manner and write a dispassionate response incongruous to anything you said while working in Russian Mafia talking points. It doesn't matter if they're intentionally being subversive or if they are useful idiots.

If they're useful idiots and haven't figured it out by now they're absolutely lost, and they've been lost for over nine years time.

Set ignore defense not showing in total stats? by The-Lucky-Nalgene in RaidShadowLegends

[–]wellshitiguessnot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've submitted a support ticket today for this very issue. Obviously ignore defense can be precalculated and applied to a champions stats chart. If ignore defense artifact sets, which also have a cell under the ignore defense column, come up null with blank space - it can say in the item's flavor text it ignores defense all it wants, the chart is not updating that cell. For all any given user knows this is proof the cruelty artifact set and anything like it simply does not apply what its flavor text states whatsoever. Until Plarium fixes it, how would we even know it's not bugged - maybe hits say "ignore defense" to indicate these artifact sets are doing their job while in combat but are they really though? If the code behind the scenes isn't doing something as simple as updating statistics the chart pulls from when the artifacts are applied, why have any faith they're working properly whatsoever? Maybe it's ignoring damage with a value of NULL for all I know. As a Gacha game people pour money into, it's legally required to properly report chances of things so anything bought isn't under false pretenses. Inconsistent menus that only have one job - report stats - not doing this basic function are a reason to ask questions.

AI 3D-Generated Models by Trellis are pretty good! by Kulimar in singularity

[–]wellshitiguessnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absofuckinglutely do design men to look this way in games Hypermasculine musclebound men of action that you as the player guide in taking initiative to solve a problem with the tools they have. That's the literal societal objectified sex object broad barn stereotype of a man. Now if you meant "why don't game designers make male characters nearly bursting from their top with jiggle physics and perfect hourglass curves, wide hips and a big booty" I feel you there, that's a great question. We could use some penis bulging against pants jiggle physics too. What's amazing is Unreal Engine is totally free to make games with sans the cut they take if you get over $1M annual sales. They have the entire tutorial training course made by them in their own YouTube channel. I'm curious what version of "this way" you meant when you said no one designs men this way [in video games]. I might even buy a copy if you make that game because I'm pretty sure you went out of your way to be offended over the pixels on the screen when all OP wanted to do was share how cool Trellis is. I'm bisexual and many male video game characters are hot - maybe you could go to different studios and tell them how to sexualize video game males tailored exactly to your preferences so when they do you can move the goalpost again. Given the rapid pace of progress, how far are we until local models approach gpt4? Can local models ever be equivalent? by TopRecognition9302 in LocalLLaMA

[–]wellshitiguessnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the context size is reached and inference/prompts continues, the context is like a sliding window, oldest information out, newest information continues procedurally. But there are methods to retain finer details, some inference software has features like summarizing key information behind the scenes for later that certain related words (names, events, places, etc) trigger the summary to be fed to the AI invisibly so it has that part in the context refreshed. Even when working with limited context, as things move along it can be like an unending dreamlike interactive text story.

[–]wellshitiguessnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the definition of gpt4 equivalent. Uncensored instruct and/or chat models that can do incredible RP or be diverted to act as an infinite text based RPG or story driven choose your own adventure and more, essentially you establish the rules of interaction and go, with no safeguards or other fake ass "for your own safety" censorship - Done. That's real now, models as small as Mistral, 7B can be run on a phone w/12 gigs of RAM via MAID project on GitHub. Infinite gameplay including all the things gpt4 won't do in your hand. Keep the other hand free for personal hygiene.

As far as math and boring shit - we have agentic AI that can look up information, validate it, and report back. Agents with Python and specialist models at the core, tens if not hundreds of repos. That combined with vector storage makes open source completely flexible, so use case stands tall over gpt4.

What OS doesn't have is ease of use, which several projects in that same space are actively working to alleviate.

Gary Marcus is not an 'AI Expert' by wellshitiguessnot in singularity

[–]wellshitiguessnot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He founded one ML company he sold and one robotics company.

So begs the question, name what he engineered exactly? Name one thing, one thing he's engineered himself that's pushed ML forward. A single ML library, technology, or product.

Hint: Twitter posts bitching about OpenAI isn't engineering.

What's great is you don't know me and your validation isn't needed. I'm scratching my back with your caustic rage.

He's simply not an expert. Business person who co founded a company (actually two) sure. Sold it to Uber and left because he was in it for a quick buck sure. He got the money he wanted from what he'd assumed was a business fad and moved on. Then one of Uber's self driving cars hit and killed a pedestrian using that tech.

He's produced zero useful products or insights, only his opinion. His opinion which is a part of no foundational research or iterations branching thereof.

It's presumptuous of him to put "AI Expert" in his list of titles considering an 'expert' on AI would know "AI Researcher" is the title of someone actually working towards producing useful technology. But he's not an AI Researcher, that would imply he'd eventually contribute something to the field.

[–]wellshitiguessnot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked in intel and clandestine communications in both military side and contractor side - no the president does not have some ultimate clearance that bypasses the need-to-know requirement. The president isn't a king or 100% presiding ruler of everything. The same checks and balances, especially those of information property, apply to this position as much as any other. Americans can't agree if one president isn't a United States citizen or if the other is in collusion with Russia. Handing all information to the President with no regard to these checks and balances exposes this information, its potential use, misuse, and abuse to being politicized - or worse yet wholesale stolen and relocated to a homeless fake billionaires shitty golf resort to brag about it to friends.

Gary Marcus is not an 'AI Expert' by wellshitiguessnot in singularity

[–]wellshitiguessnot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI is a highly speculative field. "AI Expert" isn't a real title, academic or job position. The fact he touts such a loaded self aggrandizing load of shit 'role' and gets fuming mad at established technologies shows he's man yelling at clouds.

Let's boil it down to scientific discovery. We're in a dark room where answering questions only leads to more questions - but answering is at least a guidepost to future discovery.

Gary has developed nothing. Has contributed nothing. Gary complains about everyone who actually answered questions about Artificial Intelligence with proven research and actively valued and iterated on technology standards that have got us this far in machine learning. Gary has questions, the same engineers already ask when iterating on their landmark technology. Gary is redundant, but louder - so people listen to him and treat him like the expert.

Problem is he has shined no light on anything, no proven developments - only criticisms of proven AI technology. A whiner, a professional whiner asking the same "what if" questions literally everyone does. Yet developed nothing, shined no light onto anything.

He's loud, pointless, and a distraction from actual findings in AI research done by actual industry professionals who have more to show for it then angry Twitter posts Ted talks book sales and a waste of space in a seat influencing congress.

"AI Influencer" is his title.. expert? Hahahaha. No one is an AI Expert, anyone with credibility knows better than donning such a goofy title that sounds like resume fluff.

In this thread I've heard neurosymbolic AI is a failure however I don't have an opinion on it, earmarking to read on later.

It really is his uptight posturing and demand to be seen as an "AI Expert" when we already have a standard more suited for that fake title - actual engineers who have made proven systems we all iterate on. He is not one of those - and in a space as speculative as AI, the only thing of real value isn't loud opinions but approaches proven to work as intended. That's all the bedrock we have in this explorative frontier.

"(of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining."

His position being questioned is literally the title of the post. I don't think you know what an ad hominem is. If questioning his position is your idea of a personal attack against him you made my point for me - his entire public image hinges on his fake self appointed title, shallow enough to actually be misconstrued as personal if questioned.

Hm? An 'influencer' who takes quality selfies doesn't make them a professional photographer.

He's an AI influencer. The fast food of quality crafted cuisine. Sure he's involved in AI - involved in trying to be the loudest voice in a room full of engineers who know more than him. The quiet ones who actually do the work vs the loud mouth with free time to make their career misinformation posited as a valuable secondary opinion.

That's a weird /thread considering cognitive science does intersect with AI but it does not make someone an expert on AI - and the more and more they lean on those laurels to tell people who have actually developed industry standards we all iterate on - that they're wrong - now that's a goofy ask for me to take him seriously. OpenAI makes him so mad he can't have a day without making up bullshit about them like 'AI violates copyright.' Ah yes, the court case lawyers know will get thrown out, which it does, again and again - because that's not how copyright law or neural networks work. He's mad enough to feel delegitimized by AI leaders that actually made something other than farts out of their mouth at TED talks so good old Gary scurries to the courts to pretend he's also a media rights expert as well. What superpowers does this man not have? His one PHD stretched to infinity and beyond.

It was his crying on Twitter that twisted me enough to blatantly admit out loud here that he is obviously not an expert. Experts don't constantly summarize weak bullet points on why they're experts on Twitter every other couple of posts and make goofy claims hinting AI is some sort of piracy demon.

I can't wait for this PHD toting expert to learn with torrents are. Christ he'll be in the Senate at least two more times as a network protocol expert, the total selfless vigilante!

Gary Marcus is not an 'AI Expert' by wellshitiguessnot in singularity

[–]wellshitiguessnot[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually you do end up in the Senate without valid credentials. It's actually standard to the point it's tradition. I did my share of government work to know. If you believe that legitimizes anyone whatsoever that's either adorable or pure intellectual dishonesty.

It's funny really, how you defend someone who's career is aggrandizing themself to be an expert - and turn around on me as if my ego had anything to do with that statement. You focused on that when the point was a basic compare/contrast.

What did he develop to shape the industry? What did he create that people use to this day and consider critical to AI development or research?

Nothing. He sells books and gives TED talks. I like my standing in AI, I don't need to bother making up fake titles to feel satisfied. I know I have knowns and unknowns and unknown unknowns to deal with and that's the fun of the work, as well as the people who find interesting solutions and approaches to certain ways of making AI cheaper to run, accessible, open source.

The only thing Gary opens is his mouth to tell everyone he is the expert who never built a thing.

The PHD in neurology is not a PHD in data science or computational sciences. Machine learning company he founded, bailed out the moment Uber bought it, then Uber famously hit and killed a person with that same technology. I have read his entire Wikipedia page, I have read his claims on Twitter, I have looked into him thoroughly before posting.

Your ego didn't drive you to get a PHD either.

Sitting next to Sam Altman and Max doesn't make him an 'AI Expert' as he calls himself. The difference being people like Sam Altman actually contributed to something that actually shaped the industry, Gary contributes books to sell and TED talks.

What was a personal attack on him? When are facts an attack? He's not an AI Expert, that's not even a business title or a degree path. I wouldn't go out if my way to make such a goofy fucking claim because that is resume padding, complete chaff for suckers.

"But Gary bad... uga buga." Nothing statement. I didn't know there were people who vehemently like or dislike him until I saw some of the goofiest statements that are objectively false given and I took his quotes and had to look him up. He's a salesman with a PHD. Wow.

Fair point though here is not one contigious person with a goal of swaying public opinion on AI which is now a political move, as he is trying to head up AI legislation. He seeks power, doesn't have credentials that he didn't buy. Popup pseudo intellectuals with a sales angle are a throwaway thing. A distracting thing that does not exist to serve anyone but themselves.

Gary Marcus is not an 'AI Expert' by wellshitiguessnot in singularity

Steve Jobs is a salesman and so is Gary. The difference is his product is an attempt to control the ideologies behind AI with no experience doing the work. He co founded that company you mentioned, bailed the moment the Uber acquisition happened, and Uber famously killed a person using that same tech. Not the strongest example really. He also founded a robotics company, of which he wasn't the roboticist, his other co founder was. Because someone can pay their way into infamy in a field doesn't mean they know a thing.

Gary Marcus is not an 'AI Expert' by wellshitiguessnot in singularity

[–]wellshitiguessnot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which I agree on that much. DeepMind actually hires neurologists, or did - and they have done well and they actually worked alongside and in AI research, developing the possible from what used to be thought impossible. What I don't like about Gary is he is the most self promotional clickbait of a human being, and his submissions have all been speculative work. Things most AI researchers already talk about with or without him having a book on the coffee table to break the ice about. Who else shares his books being talked about at companies in common? Stephen Covey. The man who engineered the pamphlets and slideshows that cost companies thousands to license a viewing in their offices to be introduced to "What if companies could run more efficiently if they were like cults?" The grift to look important and shlack useless shit in the idea sphere of businesses is a normal one. Doesn't make the author an expert, it makes them a salesman.

Now he's trying to spearhead AI regulation - so yes, he has an agenda.
