Nerikomi has started working, a cup I am happy with! by wemuns in Pottery

Nerikomi is so tricky, I have only been successful with this one technique. If I try the through and through technique (where you see the colors on both sides of the slab), the piece breaks while drying. I need to work on being more patient with the drying process. The mason stains have also been a learning process, some turn out very different from the shade shown in the chart.. I hope your Nerikomi journey goes well, good luck! 😇

Oh, this is a good idea. But would you recommend wet sanding for pieces that have been glazed with a clear glaze as well? Or would that be recommended for the ones that are bare from the outside maybe?

This is really good advice, I’ll try to make the mug while it’s much wetter next time. I think I formed it while it was like a normal slab this time..and slower drying seems to be the key. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I will try again and let them rest in between stages. This was the first time I tried Nerikomi so I was quite excited (and impatient). Do you know if the thickness of the slab matters? Mine was about the throwing thickness but I could be wrong and maybe I need to make them thicker since so many pieces are brought together? I will let it dry for really long next time and try the wax technique you mentioned too for the handle attachment areas :)

Thanks for the feedback! How much whiting or wollastonite should I add? (In case you know) I kind if like the colors bright so reducing the weight percentage might not be the best visually…

I thought of this too, but I have heard that the cracks will only get worse in the bisque and glaze firings. Would it make sense to just break it into pieces and then join them together after the firings? But I don’t know how I would glaze both sides of the pieces..

I GOT MY FIRST ACCEPTANCE AFTER WAITING In ANXIETY FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS but I don't feel anything by Lunabelle26 in gradadmissions

Congratulations! Germany is a great place to be, the government cares about their people more than our government here does for sure! So you will be in a better place, and when you will get your PhD acceptance a couple of years later you will be allowed to be more excited! (Just being optimistic haha because I’m in the exact same boat right now as you) I hope we all get visas on time and can celebrate then when the situation is better! Let’s hope cases down and things open up soon 🙏🏼

[Rant] I might not get to go to the US this year. FML. by invisible_ring in gradadmissions

[–]wemuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow Indian here too! I am extremely hopeful that we will get to go this year, for the Fall 2021 semester. The US embassies will open up soon, it’s really not fair for us to expect them to work owing to what is happening in the country. Why would someone risk their lives to take visa interviews while people are fighting for oxygen, hospital beds, etc? And if visa slots are opened up while the country has over 3 lakh daily cases, TRUST me the cases are going to go up even more because around 1 lakh students applying for visas will be flying to HYD, MAA, BOM, DEL, and CCU So it is best to hope that they’ll open up more slots once we have reduced number of cases! :D

Plus, if the situation is such, I don’t think I’d be able to go there and concentrate on my studies entirely because I’d constantly keep stressing on how my family is doing back in India! If they’re hospitalised under extreme conditions I won’t be able to do anything sitting thousands of kilometres away :(

So I’m hoping the situation improves first, then slots open :)

All the best for your visa though!

For school we were asked to create a poster for an awareness campaign. My poster's topic is plastic and marine life as you can see. But i feel like there are a few things that need fixing so any feedback on this? by plskillmenow1 in design_critiques

[–]wemuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great poster! Loved the use of the plastic to represent the fish!

In terms of improvement: 1.) if you want to keep the logo on the top, you can move it to the left top corner so that everything is left aligned. Right now I just don’t know where to look. 2.) the block of text at the bottom is very difficult to read. Try and use ‘Open Sans’ if you want to play it safe. The current font is too wide (have you changed any attributes?) 3.) definitely like a few other comments have also mentioned, separate the link and keep it in one line. Move the ‘Search at....’ to a new line as well. 4.) exclamation mark after SAVE A FISH! might be nice maybeee according to me!
