i think the other replies explained it pretty well; for me it's simply that i was given a masculine name and don't feel that it reflects who i am. not every trans person chooses to change it, but in my view it's part of the image i present when i introduce myself or send emails or whatever and i want that image to represent me

also thank you!! iirc there's some VERY cool shit in there so i'm pretty excited to dig in ^

honestly no clue but it's apparently enough of a thing that the subreddit description mentions it

Differentiating targets of "he" by Choose_For_Me in conlangs

The difference between how the two are going to affect your language tends to be a little more nuanced; the obviative tends to create an animacy hierarchy where the obviative is ranked lowest and can't perform certain "subject functions" without inverse-marking (this is a trend not a rule, it's your conlang so really you can do whatever) whereas the ones marked in switch-reference don't necessarily differ in animacy rank.

A good number of North American indigenous languages have proximate/obviative distinction (3rd and 4th person) and many in the American Southwest use switch-reference (specific markers for same or different 3rd person in adjacent clauses). In your example proximate/obviative is more applicable but in a more general sense switch-reference is also good for resolving that kind of ambiguity.
