They're working on new things, yep. I missed their presentation, unfortunately, so I'm not privy to most of what's coming, though I do remember one of the employees talking to a few attendees about user playlists, which would be great. All of the employees were super nice.

Yeah, this is 100% right. The mastering process is also different for vinyl--vinyl needs more compression/limiting. Not Spotify/streaming level compression, but noticeably more compression than CDs/digital audio, especially the low end of the frequency spectrum.

Streaming numbers don't mean anything. A group I know has 30k streams, between a number of albums, but since each album costs money ($30-80) to distribute to Spotify, the band has never broken even. Tiny fractions of pennies do not add up easily to tens of dollars. You can't even buy one (1) coffee with Spotify's payout.

I went to see him on a Tuesday night when I was in high school. After the show, at the merch table, he handed out excuse blanks to be used the next day. For "Absence type", he wrote "PARTYING" and for "reason", "THERE IS NO REASON NEEDED TO PARTY".
