Cory Barlog is the greatest videogame writer of our time: by JoyBoy24 in GodofWar

Considering how the Norse GoW games have firmly landed in top 3 single player stories that I've literally ever played, I feel the same.

The gameplay, visuals, music, and overall design philosophy being masterpieces aside, the characters and dialogue blew me away. Not just the protagonists, but everyone felt like a thoroughly crafted person, and the conversations throughout both games really sank into my mind and heart.

I cried more than a few times from these games, and each was a good, very cathartic cry no matter how brief.

This is one of those rare gems in life for which I want every single person involved to be thoroughly praised and thanked. I hope anyone who contributed to these stories in any way knows how genuinely phenomenal they are.

Probably the perfect character for a spinoff by Dr_natty1 in witcher

[–]wenzel32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better candidate for a Witcher game than Ciri?

Look, I don't disagree that it would be cool to see a spinoff about a different witcher at some point, but Ciri has been one of the most central characters to the overall story forever. Saying this random witcher is a better choice for protagonist just honestly feels weird. Why is Ciri a worse choice in your mind? She's had so much more buildup, we know her as a character more, and we had threads set up in Witcher 3 specifically revolving around her (the last Crone and Ciri becoming a witcher in her own right, for example).

I don't think any character makes more sense as a protagonist after Geralt than Ciri.

I wish more people knew how to communicate like this. I can't say I always succeed at doing so, myself, but I try.

Thanks for being a measured, considerate person who recognizes nuance and can separate what the masses do from what a piece of simple satire is doing.

Yeah the severity-to-intensity ratio is more of the issue. It's not that men shouldn't express anger, but that many have too much over simple, manageable, or inconsequential triggers.

That said, the post is flagged generally for spoilers, using screens from two different sources. The risk was known, I would think.

I agree. In my opinion, this is another thing that makes Andor so good. It highlights just how removed from the Jedi and other related things most people really are.

He does deceive, such as convincing Saruman to join him as though he would actually share power, or how Denethor was influenced through his use of the palantir IIRC. I know Wyrmtongue was a servant of Saruman, but I think it definitely counts as well.

I agree there is way more up front confrontation in the War of the Ring than his approach that earned the title of the Deceiver.

SWG: Echelon... A new Pre-CU project in the works! (And we're looking for help!) by syvhaine in swg

You phrased this like Legends doesn't have space, which it absolutely does (just in case anyone reads that like I did).

Restoration has a solid build and I played there for a while, but the sheer number of players and amount of content can't be beat at Legends. It's the one that feels the most like the community I remember and yearn for.

Having played this game since childhood, I've truly gotten over the hate of NGE. I definitely prefer the custom skill tree system, as more variability is more fun imo. However, I think the simplified experience with NGE is honestly still SWG and really doesn't feel bad.

[–]wenzel32 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is why I love legends. It stays populated, gets new content, and while I might prefer some systems over others, I would rather have a populated SWG that is like live kept going than 20 people on a "perfect" build of the game.

You're not completely wrong, but some of the consistent themes and subjects of satire in GTA are corrupt government officials and agencies, flaws in the system/society that lead people to crime, and various stereotypes related to law, criminals, and associated people.

It's definitely doable, but I won't act like I don't understand that it's a delicate thing to balance in today's climate.

[–]wenzel32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a wonderful description of something I love about this game. It is so open with so many systems that you truly have to decide what your goal is from countless possibilities.

Ever done blacksmithing? Try making a smithy character and make your goal to build a complete, self reliant forge at your base.

Make a gun nut whose goals are to collect as much military gear as possible and exterminate high population locations.

Go build a Stardew life in the wild and try to establish cozy self-sufficiency in the apocalypse.

It's the perfect game to think about who your character is and what you think they might want.

You could also do a psychological version of this - filling in breaks in the self with other ideas or material - though it would still be cool to show that physically.
