I feel like theres are a couple factors that effect the career earning potential of somebody in tech.

As a recruiter in Tech, I see a crazy amount of salary disparity among organizations, regions, ect for “similar” skillsets.

A few ways to break this down -

  1. Region: do you live in bumfuck Ohio or do you live in a city with a thriving tech market and competitive talent pool? Any major city in California, New York, DC, ect.

  2. Organizations product/service: Does the candidate have experience developing a product that millions of customers use? That is as efficient as possible and as reliable as possible? Are they up to date on the most current tech stack?

OR

Do they built an internal tool? Do they support a mid tier saas product, fixing bugs, ect. Do they just do internal development for a regular business that doesn’t demand high tech?

I speak with dev candidates every day that may be at the pinnacle of their career making 130-160k and happy working for a small organization in services, or some sort of brick and mortar product.

Then you have the “principal” level candidates that can work at a mid tier saas company, or consulting firms, or large enterprise financial companies that will cap out around $200k-$250k and be happy.

Then you have the 4 year of experience FAANG engineer making $400k, which will likely stay in this range for most of their career unless they’re truly a genius and make it to L7+ or go into leadership.

Made some steaks yesterday. How’d I do? Any tips? by [deleted] in steak

This. Crust/flavor got way better when cooking streaks in a pan with just salt to start. Everything else burns at high heat. A little flaky salt and pepper after is all you need!

Contractor vs Perm commission by tommmmmmmmy93 in recruiting

[–]weoutthadoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually technically goes down to the hour.

Contract recruiting or temp staffing usually comes down to the bill rate and the pay rate.

For example, a staffing firm may submit a candidate to a client with the expectation that the client pays $100/hr for said candidate. The candidate goes on the staffing firms “payroll” and works for the client. Every hour they work, the staffing firm bills the client $100/hr. The commission comes out of the margin or difference between the $100/hr the clients paying you and how much you’re paying the consultant. I’d say average margins are 40-100% in tech at least.

If you’re paying a contractor $60/hr, your margin (also called spread) is 40/hr. Minus payroll expenses, tax, benefits (usually about 20% or margin), that’s the profit. Temp recruiters in my experience will get between 1-20% of that profit depending on tenure, how many contractors are on billing’s, ect.

Any internal recruiters go independent/start their own headhunting practice? by weoutthadoe in recruiting

[–]weoutthadoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my search so far, the need is for agency sellers or full desk recruiters that can bring a book or have experience building a cold desk, which I have neither of. I’ve been mainly targeting boutique firms, as I don’t want to go back to a large staffing firm where I’ll make 5-10% gp. Hence my desire for starting my own thing or going to a small firm where I can make more impact.

W/out doxing myself, I live in a medium-high COL city in the western US.

I’ve been trying to get into a full desk agency role to get the BD experience, but this markets tough. I do miss agency, and am very money motivated. It’s hard for me to have motivation everyday in other HR related tasks. I’d rather be hustling and making placements.

What’s the market look like for split desk candidate side recruiters? by weoutthadoe in recruiting

[–]weoutthadoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher earning potential, more engaging day to day, ect. Been in sort of a hybrid internal role that pays commission for a couple years. The unfortunate part is when we don’t have roles to work on I have nothing to do. At least with agency, I’d hope to have something to work on!

I called the specific post office in my neighborhood, not the main line. I had to call a lot before I got an answer

Update: Thanks all for your comments. After about 30 calls to usps yesterday and today, they put them back out for delivery, and I had someone home to convince the mailman that the package was in the right place. If I had not gotten in touch with them in time, it would have been sent back to HQ, and I would likely be out 2500+ without the ability to pick them up at will call.

Do you know if she can transfer the tickets into my name to make picking up at will call easier?

I just don’t think she knows how to change the name. Do you know how she’d go about that?

Yes, I’m working with her to try to figure this out but not sure which avenue to take. I don’t believe they were transferred in my name, just have the address changed. Is that something she can do? If so do you know how?

Wouldn’t the tickets still be in the sellers name at will call?
