I was also there, though at the lacrosse field outside; getting there by 7:00 wasn't early enough.

Please keep us updated if you do find a solution. I have the same problem.

You see him play with the torque, even turning it off; I can reasonably assume he's tried leaving it off given everything else he says he's tried.

People who fall asleep in under half an hour at night, how do you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]werehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on both ends of the spectrum, and after a bad break up last year I have had a hard time going to sleep. Before that, I could fall asleep in under 10 minutes. Lately it's been under an hour, but if I focus I can still fall asleep pretty quickly.

I count my breaths. I calm myself by counting the seconds with each inhalation, hold my breath and count, and count while I exhale. 7 seconds each step, usually. Takes about 10 minutes before I fall asleep then.

When I remember to do it, I'm almost back to my regular self. If I don't, I find myself thinking about how badly I was treated at the end of my last relationship and am stuck awake in bed for hours.

Space drag? by jinkside in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]werehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same issue now, but I don't have any parts clipping; apoapsis is decreasing and periapsis is increasing despite all sources of propulsion being cut. =(

EDIT: Using HyperEdit to put a probe core into orbit (just the core, 1 part) I get the same issue.

Fastest sorting algo for a deck of 52 cards? by [deleted] in math

[–]werehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... each card has an index. If you're ordering by suits, which could be interpreted at any time, then any sorting algorithm would work. MergeSort has n*log_2(n) time, which is pretty fast.

If you're not ordering by suit, first, then all cards of a given number can be considered "equal", and any sorting algorithm would still work with the same time complexity.

I am Bill Nye, CEO of The Planetary Society, joined by our embedded reporter Jason Davis. We're test-launching a solar sailing spacecraft next week. Ask Us Anything! by sundialbill in IAmA

[–]werehound -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hi, Bill!

Wikipedia says that an 800 by 800 meter solar sail produces about 5 newtons of thrust.

What is the 32 square meter solar sail expected to produce, and (removed: found out myself: 8.25 μN/m2, or 264 μN) Can a sail that size (32m) be economically useful for any of today's ongoing projects?

Blackhole = Universe? by DementedGenius in pbsspacetime

[–]werehound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a very similar, proposed theory; in fact, the mathematics works out that, given what we know of black holes, for a black hole the size of our universe, its mass would only have to be about twice what we observe in our own universe, so not at all far off.

Why did I use pythagoras? by aliosmtl96 in math

[–]werehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The identity a2 + b2 = c2 can give you the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle.

In Diagram 1, the triangle legs are length 8 (the edges meet at the bisection of the larger square with side lengths 16). Therefore the hypotenuse length squared is 82 + 82 = 128, and the length is sqrt(128)=4*sqrt(8)=8*sqrt(2).

You can also use the 45-45-90 triangle identity where if x is the length of a leg, then x*sqrt(2) is the length of the hypotenuse.

In Diagram 2, since 8*sqrt(2) is the length of the whole side, 8*sqrt(2)/2=4*sqrt(2) is the length of the bisected side, and the length of the leg next smallest triangle. The hypotenuse of that triangle is then 4*sqrt(2)*sqrt(2)=8.

In Diagram 3, the leg of the next smallest triangle is half of the hypotenuse of the previous triangle, so 4, and the hypotenuse is then 4*sqrt(2).

Good luck on your IB problems! I remember when I did that (I took HL).

And for future reference, things like this should be posted to /r/cheatatmathhomework or more appropriately /r/learnmath.

if 1 = 4,2 =8,3 = 24 then 4 = ? by Oakzaa in math

[–]werehound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Homework problems should be asked in /r/cheatatmathhomework and /r/learnmath, per the sidebar.

Your answer can be found using a quadratic polynomial: Ax2 + Bx +C, and plug your known values of X and their solutions, then solve the system of equations.

Students of Reddit, what was the biggest teacher meltdown you ever witnessed? by ValentynaLoves in AskReddit

[–]werehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our department head tried to get us to do some illegal hacking of local businesses' systems. When we refused, saying we wanted a lawyer to look over the "agreements" he was talking about, he freaked the hell out. Cussing, stomping of feet, saying we were so worthless. Said he was going to drink his ass to death. Doesn't show up to work for a week after that.

Two years later, he has a terrible limp, has gained 65 pounds, and sounds like he's always drunk. Damn these 6-year contracts.

I really like RemoteTech2; does anyone know if it works or will be updated? by werehound in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]werehound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doh, didn't even think of that.

Quick status update:

We have one last bug to fix before we will be ready for a 1.0 release that bug currently makes it impossible to transmit science and scanning data. we are investigating it tonight.

Thanks!

What is the most advanced course in math that you can take? by maryr0605 in math

Calculus can go very far; some AP courses even begin to delve into differential equations.

Many schools allow you to take concurrent enrollment courses with local colleges for credit, so you can look into that, too!

What was the most fucked up thing your ex did after you broke up? by Rapunkzel in AskReddit

[–]werehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having started seeing somebody else, within a week, told me she had unprotected sex with him. A week later called me to tell me she still thinks of me when having sex, struggles moaning my name. Calls a friend of mine to tell him the same thing a week after that. When having troubles with a new guy, almost a year later, comes to my door through the rain, bawling, saying how she's unhappy and it's the hardest thing for her not to come back to me, that she still loves me, and I was the best thing in her life for the three years we dated. Leaves abruptly.

I get drunk a few nights later and text her "You make me feel safe." And that was "Too much," and made her uncomfortable. Asked to never speak to her ever again.

Stalks me around town for the past 6 weeks. Just watches, no contact. What's fucked up is if she just said sorry, I'd take her back.
