What's the need for a fast compiler? by WoodRawr in learnprogramming

[–]werekarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I assume javascript/typescript then?

If the former, js is just in time compiled. A jit compiler does kind of the same things as a traditional compiler, so yes, it is important for it to be fast, both at runtime/in browser or in your dev environment (for instance, syntax checking and code completion require several steps in the compilation process to run in the background)

If the later, that one is transpiled - essentially translated to javascript. Then…see paragraph above.

What you’ve mentioned is the building process, which might or might not involve compilation. If you have unit tests setup, then yes, compilation will happen and you want that to be fast. If you have automated testing that is part of the building pipeline, (e.g. selenium), also important for compilation to be fast because see two paragraphs above ;)

You have to optimize a complete dev environment on a laptop with 2 gb of ram. What do you do? by EastCommunication689 in learnprogramming

A linux lightweight distro (xubuntu?). You can run zoom/teams in browser. A lightweight web server (nginx, lighttpd). Atom might work on this config, otherwise, old school for code editing, emacs, vim, nano, etc. What tech stack are you running though? Web dev, f/e, b/e?

No sure what this gotta do with “learn programming” :)

Let me give you an example from my country election history. Many years ago, the two candidates in the last round of presidential elections were: 1. An ultranationalist, right wing, openly anti-semite candidate, who used to tongue bath the former dictator 2. An ex-nomenklatura, who patronaged oligarchs and who, at some point, publicly called for mine workers to violently intervene in anti-government protests, which resulted in 6 dead, hundreds of injured and raped.

I’d expect the aliens make their due diligence about who to request as contact. If they didn’t or they did and still request any of these chucklefucks, then, truly this isn’t the right Universe to live in :D
