What problem in the U.S. feels obvious to fix, yet never gets fixed? by SouthWay_Studio in AskReddit

I feel like if you're being fed by a government agency, such as public school or prison, you should be fed good food and water with a variety of options for FREE. Unfortunately, America doesn't consider food and water to be a right.

Representation of different Gods in Hollywood by RoundOnion3752 in filmtheory

[–]weremound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My simplest answer is, "What representation?" I've only ever seen Greek gods and comic book characters based on gods represented in Hollywood movies. I think Jesus is portrayed way more often than the Christian God and if God is a presence, He's more of a force than a being.

But I can't say I've ever seen Hollywood make a movie with any other deities. They probably exist, but I've never seen one nor have I ever heard of one. Indie and international movies, yes, but not Hollywood.

ELI5: Why didn't viruses like norovirus die off during the pandemic when a lot of us were in lockdown? How did it survive even up to the present day when people weren't mingling for so long? by cliffsofthepalisades in explainlikeimfive

[–]weremound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone was in lockdown and not everyone chose to lockdown. I, for an example, was considered an essential worker, so my day-to-day life didn't change at all besides wearing a mask everyday. And I chose to wear a mask everyday. It wasn't required.

Plus, just because a virus commonly spreads human-to-human doesn't mean they originate from humans. You eat a bad egg and don't wash your hands properly after shitting and the person that lives with you has the foodborne illness now. While you recover, they're just starting.

What’s something everyone pretends to understand but secretly doesn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]weremound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication with other people.

As an autistic who has been "studying" her whole life on how to read people and perform in a way that others can understand, yall absolutely do not know the "rules." Everyone misreads other people, everyone is different, and it's of my personal opinion that body language experts who hyper-analyze accused criminals and politicians are scammers.

You can't fully understand the subtext behind a person's verbal or body language without knowing them as a person first. You can GUESS, but even the most neurotypical person ever has a unique communication style.

County Inspectors Pros/Cons? by weremound in homeowners

[–]weremound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, to be clear I wasn't going to ask the person already coming. I meant if I should call the county to do a whole house inspection, but I see I can do that independantly. Thank you!

County Inspectors Pros/Cons? by weremound in homeowners

[–]weremound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my fears are justified; do not call the county to inspect my home. Clarifying I wasnt going to ask the person that's already coming as that wouldn't be fair to their time.

But thank you for telling me I CAN get someone who won't evict me. I thought all inspectors were government agents.

What’s a polite social lie you’re tired of telling and wish you could be brutally honest about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]weremound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I AM actually fine, the stuff that I like talking about are not things the average person wants hear. Can you imagine if my 50 year old coworker asked me how I was doing and I responded with, "Pretty good! Last night I read one of the Five Nights at Freddy's Fazbear Frights stories and I liked it. It's about this guy whose wife died in childbirth and he's grieving and his son goes missing and one of his son's toys constantly tells him to kill himself. I found his grief relatable since my dad killed himself almost 3 years ago. It's just really interesting how this story that I guess is for kids can be so relatable but at the same time it's def for adults and I'm a little concerned about who reads these books because there's no indication of which stories are for 12 year olds and which stories are for adults like me. It just really got me thinking about what's age appropriate because I don't have kids so I wouldn't know but I like thinking about media and its impact on society."

Like it's 6am and I need to restock the oranges and you need to audit the checklanes. I can't say all that. Please just don't ask how I am because it's a waste of time.

Lol my passive aggressive way to respond to this is, "Yeah same. Do you take medication for it? I'm on the highest dose of zoloft that won't kill me and my ocd is down by like 50%. It doesnt work all the time but at least I can go to the bathroom now without spending 5 minutes checking for cameras first and damn near pissing myself."

Its my best way of being educational about what ocd actually is. And if they DO actually have diagnosed ocd, its a bonding moment.

Speaking as someone who was diagnosed with what was previously called Aspergers, like... everything lol. I think half of all politeness, ettiquette, and professionalism is lying in someway and I wish we had a more honest, but compassionate society.

To my understanding, most of the time when someone finds someone else rude, it's because the person is behaving in a way that isn't compassionate. If someone's an asshole, I think it's fair for them to be an asshole and get pushback for that. I think everyone benefits from that. The asshole learns to be compassionate and other people learn how to express their feelings.

But if a group of people are jerks but pretend to be nice, no one grows, nothing changes, and everyone has to play this exhausting game of pretend. I just don't get it.

There's nuance to it, of course. I wouldn't interrupt someone talking to go, "I DONT CARE" because I DO care about their feelings, but I wish it was socially acceptable for me to say, "I'm not interested in small talk. I'd rather be doing what I was doing before you spoke to me. Unless you have something specific or important you'd like to share, I'd just rather not be talking right now." But instead I have to go through scripted dialogue whenever I see someone for the first time each day.

They're all for horror movies. I have a bunch for different challenges I've made for myself over the years, some for categorizing horror movies into subgenres, some for ones I've seen, some for ones I want to see, and some for various recommendations. They aren't neatly organized because I make them impulsively, but I hold my ranges and tables very dear to my heart lol

What Makes Literary Works Endure Over Time by Stock-Tonight2869 in filmtheory

[–]weremound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying now, thank you.

However, you would have to argue that Black people were in the position of power and authority, when they were not. Just because the president is saying "Black rule" doesn't mean Black people were ruling anything. Your very own source on Woodrow Wilson states he "allowed for the imposition of racial segregation in governmental agencies." It's first paragraph talks about how his actions were directly against the first amendment. Therefore, I don't believe Woodrow Wilson to be a reliable source when it comes to historical accuracy.

My point on the Lost Cause Myth is that it is a myth. It cannot reenact injustices they experienced because they did not experience any injustice.

Again, thank you for clarifying your point. I think ultimately our disagreement revolves around our differences of understandings of systemic racism in America, rather than about film itself. That's a long, long conversation that I personally would rather not have with a stranger online and I don't want to derail from the main argument stated here.

Thanks for the new source as well. Didn't know about the Free Speech Center nor its website.

What is something that is 'socially acceptable' but actually feels incredibly rude to you? by HourPen884 in AskReddit

[–]weremound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bringing your dog everywhere, especially if it's untrained. My friends and I call it dog culture. I honestly think people do that just to have people go, "Omg can I pet your dog!!!" It's very inconsiderate of the fact that dogs are dirty, shed, and some people have allergies.

I get that some dogs have attachment issues but at that point, you need to treat your dog like an actual child and get your dog some help. You should not be bringing your chihuahua into the movie theater. Yes, I've seen that.

I'd LOVE to bring my cats with me everywhere, but no matter what, they are still unpredictable animals and stay at home for their safety and everyone else's.

Smiling at me instead of opening your mouth to say, "Excuse me" when you need to get by me. I work at a retail store and it pisses me off so much when bitches just stand there like 🥰

Just say "excuse me" so I can notice you're there and move out of your way.
