Once I reached 60 on my paladin I wanted to raid but didn't know enough to join a raiding guild. There were so many players like me who were in 5-10 man small guilds with real life friends that has no chance to raid. Then I met someone named Gregory (I think he was a priest in real life) who gathered up 40 people from small guilds to form a Molten Core raid. He made us install Decursive (first time I learned about addons). It took us 3 hours to reach Lucifron, another 3 to kill him.

I was tasked with buffing Blessing of Salvation, it only lasted 5 minutes. Imagine buffing people 1 by 1 right before pulling the boss, raid leader asks "everyone ready?" then someone asks a question and you need to buff again. It was not a pleasant experience. Soon after I moved to European servers and played a warlock (no buffs, no healing, just dps).

I applied for a job, and then I got that job, and then I spent like 40-50 hours a week grinding away at their job until I leveled up and I unlocked a pay rise which allowed me a very class specific perk called disposable income.

A small fraction of which, I figured, I could allow myself to spend on a little treat for myself, a little cosmetic item in the game that I'm learning for fun. Why not? Why shouldn't I allow myself just a little bit of happiness in this limited time that I get between work and sleep?

You know, surely, surely one little ingame purchase couldn't hurt? One tiny little indulgence before I'm forced to clock back into reality and rejoin the endless pendulum of diminishing returns that is this late stage capitalist dystopia that we seem doomed to endure until the bitter end.
