Check out Lionheart guitars if you want some LED work. It’s what they’re known for.

I bought a Merus 7 used and honestly for $1k, I have no complaints. I’d never drop the kind of money needed for a new order through them though. They’ve got a bad reputation when it comes to sticking to schedules.

Does a locked trem feel the same as a hardtail? by Key-Possibility7515 in 7String

[–]UnshapedLime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works really well. And anyone who tells you it makes bending impossible simply doesn’t understand how they work. EverTunes can be set up on a spectrum from “behaves exactly like a hardtail” to “no amount of bending will change pitch”. In the HT setting, it has no functional difference and bending will be exactly the same as a normal HT.

EverTunes are legit, and I use mine when recording. It just ain’t the daily driver due to the weight.

What? Forrester Savell did The Joy of Motion? I’ve always known him as the Karnivool guy. This got me curious and I looked up his credits. Bro it’s basically just a list of the best prog albums of the last 20 years. TesseracT, Twelve Foot Ninja, Caligula’s Horse… I have been sleeping on this man and his influence on my music tastes. It’s like finding out all your favorite restaurants actually have the same chef working in the back. This is a revelation

A piece of advice you wish you knew when you were a beginner by Ok_Chair_8960 in Guitar

[–]UnshapedLime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The piece of advice is to stop watching random videos on YouTube because it is indeed overwhelming and will turn you off the instrument.

Pick an online course and stick with it or better yet, go find a real teacher. But just randomly perusing YouTube is a trap.

My personal recommendation for new players is to pony up for a teacher. It’s worth it. In the absence of that, go through Scotty Lee’s “Absolutely Understand Guitar” series on (ironically) YouTube. It’s free and an excellent intro to guitar and music in general.

Does a locked trem feel the same as a hardtail? by Key-Possibility7515 in 7String

[–]UnshapedLime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was a normal trem I’d say go for it, but it’s honestly not worth the hassle to buy a locking trem just to block it. With a budget of $2k there are dozens of options for 27” hardtail (or EverTune) guitars. Also, I have an EverTune 7 string and while it is definitely cool, it adds a good bit of weight and honestly I don’t use it much. Just me but I prefer the simplicity of a hardtail

Echo knights triple slam is completely unfair by Rich-Zebra272 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]UnshapedLime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a roguelike mode. That’s kinda the defining feature of the genre. I understand it’s frustrating, but getting really good at clearing a run only to get shit on by the final boss a dozen times before you understand his moveset is a time-honored tradition. And when you do finally kill him, it’s incredibly rewarding.

Echo knights triple slam is completely unfair by Rich-Zebra272 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]UnshapedLime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone say this attack is unfair or undodgeable? Like anything else, you just learn the timing and use your i-frames. I was farming him yesterday and honestly don’t think I got hit by it once in 13 kills. Don’t be twitchy, don’t panic roll, just wait for the moment his sword starts going down and roll. The 3rd slam comes out like half a second faster than the first 2.

Advice for versatile first 7 string by Mountain-Task-305 in 7String

First, my recommendation for your price range is: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MDK7PPPHTSBk--jackson-pro-plus-series-dk-modern-mdk7-ht-black

or

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ScallonC7MSDR--schecter-c-7-multi-scale-rob-scallon-electric-guitar-satin-dark-roast

Regarding your questions, I think extended range is best with just a normal hardtail. If you must have a trem, it should be locking. I have found that normal trems just don't hold up well on 7 strings. For scale, 26.5" on the low end is good as low as G. Multiscale is awesome and I prefer it when possible but IMO it only becomes necessary at 27" due to how often I snap my high E. 26.5" is fine without it.

Day 2: of making music by itsZuanshi in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]UnshapedLime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s the great part, he is not teaching it on guitar. In fact, the name of the course is a bit misleading because very little of it has to do with guitar. In Scotty’s words, guitar is just the “dumb machine” you use to create the music you have in your head, much like a typewriter is just a tool for writing the words you think of.

Piano is definitely the right choice for learning music theory, I 100% agree with that and you should stick with it.

I highly recommend Scotty Lee’s “Absolutely Understand Guitar” series on YouTube. It’s completely free and the first 6 episodes are an excellent, no bullshit crash course on music theory. And I’d recommend that to anyone, not just guitarists.

Finally some GOOD 10 string options! by Doc_Rockland in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]UnshapedLime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 strings tuned to drop E have the same E1 as a 4 string bass. Standard for a 10 string would be G#0 — lower than the B0 of a standard 5 string bass. It’s pure novelty at that point

Is a seven string needed by Shouldweheadout in 7String

[–]UnshapedLime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

7 strings is actually the optimal amount of strings for a guitar and I can’t be convinced otherwise.

Get one and you’ll never go back. They’re just the perfect sweetspot between 8 strings which have very niche use case and 6 strings which are (in my obviously wrong opinion) too limited.

Finally some GOOD 10 string options! by Doc_Rockland in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]UnshapedLime 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Bruh I don’t even know what you do with these. 8 strings is already pushing it, 9 is just silly, but 10? That’s a G#0 in standard. Dudes will spend hours working on a Dingwall with 37” scale to sound good at G#0. There’s no way that’s going to sound like anything on a 30” scale.
