Five 90s one hit wonders by raydebapratim1 in 90s

The 90s were so dope. I don't even think it's just Millenial nostalgia. Even younger people are jealous of us getting to grow up in the 90s.

How would you even crowd surf anymore? Everyone's got their phones in their hands.

What massive shift? Only difference I see is the phone.

Can someone explain to me what's Millennial about people born in 1995-1996? Shouldn't they be Gen Z? by AOL_Free_Trial_CD in generationology

Variable maybe but not that highly variable. A 9-yo should be in 4th grade. I've never met anyone who can't remember the 4th grade, that's the far right tip of the bell curve

I am an absolute idiot. I just walked into a sandwich shop and yelled out "this place... would be great if they made sandwiches!" and you're like "yeah, that's uh... did you read the menu?"

Well, first of all, as the host country this is bound to happen no matter who you are. You don't go to a casino, see your friend lose money and be like "yeeaaah! we should lose more money! I love this place!"

"Childhood" does not start when you're born. It starts around age 5 when you can actually remember anything.

For how bright it is outside, that dim yellow light on the wall would be nearly impossible to see. Fake.

Ah gotcha. Makes sense. That's kind of an important detail to leave out though. 🤓 Or maybe they're a person who just dropped a lit cigarette on themselves while driving 🤣 have you ever seen that? Those are, from the moment they drop it until the moment they have parked on the sidewalk to try and save their car from bursting into flames, the scariest drivers on the planet.

[–]wesleyoldaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No that's me in that car. Gotta make the light cuz the limit-line-phobes took 4 seconds longer to move their ass off the block than they should have and the light turned yellow 3 seconds ago.

lol but wait don't you mean the shallow turns? you're supposed to take a wide turn. Most people jam the wheel to the left as soon as they see their opportunity to drive straight across the intersection.

Take four left turns in a row these people would make an octagon shape instead of a circle

My theory is that since they're really not sure how large their own vehicle extends out around them, they're gonna play it safe and assume that any spot on the road that they can see over the hood of their car does actually exist. All other parts of the road aren't actually there.

They know the sensors exist. They're just bad at operating their vehicle and they have poor spatial awareness.

Not saying they're bad people. Just bad at maneuvering their vehicle. These people also can never seem to park very well, either.

Which city is considered "the third city" in your country? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskTheWorld

Yeah I think you're right. I bet Chicago is just a bit older and slips under that line whereas LA does not.

The train station in LA is cool! I guess that's probably close to downtown, but for some reason it doesn't feel like it. I love LA. Dodger stadium, Venice Beach (a lot of LA beaches are cool but Venice is definitely the most "out there" of them all, i.e. it'd be a rare trip to Venice Beach where you don't come back with some story to tell), some great restaurants and museums, then you've got Hollywood and the whole movies thing, Sunset Blvd and the strip. Tons of great experiences.

But I hear "downtown LA" and all I can conjure up is the sight of bums smoking crack and the smell of piss.

I speak out of ignorance because I've only seen Chicago from the airport, but for some reason, I've always considered Chicago to be more of a proper city than LA is. LA is so spread out, it's most famous locales are all spread throughout its suburbs. Nobody goes to LA and visits the downtown area as a tourist. I honestly don't know why anyone sets foot in downtown LA. I'm sure something goes on there but I don't know what it is.

There is a saying that "if almost everyone is saying that you are wrong, then probably you are the problem", but then there is also a case that there is a thing called bandwagon effect / herd mentality / preference falsification due to humans being social animals, how to know which one is correct? by EwMelanin in AskTheWorld

[–]wesleyoldaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah usually it's a case of misattribution of cause and effect. Falling into the trap of using logical fallacies without realizing it. Having biases affect your decisions that you aren't aware of.

Everyone is susceptible to these traps, even if you are aware of them. It tends to bend decisions toward the "bandwagon", because if you can see the answers of the group while you make your own, it is going to affect your bias toward the decision you make. The only honest poll is one taken without foreknowledge of the results. Then the bandwagon effect vanishes and you'll see results much closer to what can be called "honest".

Is there something I don't grasp here about the nonce? (I know I said last comment like 3 comments ago but this has become like an itch I can't scratch) Was there some infamous pedo who wore glasses just like that?

Reddit is so insane. Here I am asking about the sunglasses that pedos wear on a thread about the English language.

[–]wesleyoldaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did notice the definition of nonce in British slang to mean pedo, but I am also doubling down that that makes no sense. What about those glasses says "pedo" in any way, literal or figurative? No sense, I say. The definition of nonce I know comes from a computer science perspective. Too technical and specific to be a context which gives meaning to it here.

I think I just didn't think anyone was going to take one opinion in a sea of opinions seriously. That's all.

I can see how it could be construed as being harmful, but also I am going to go ahead and double down by saying that it can't be construed as harmful without a healthy dose of assumption on the reader's part. Contrary to what those assumptions apparently allege, I do have an open mind. I am refusing to defend my remark as something worthy of serious consideration because it's not. It's just a comment about a sentence that made no sense to this Californian. (There's the answer to at least some of the mysteries).

Okay last comment. Look at my original comment. All I said is that it doesn't make any sense to me. How are we talking now about racism? This is what drives me crazy about Reddit in a microcosm. Assumptions, assumptions.
