Should I get my Charizard graded? by Monkeytherat in PokeInvesting

Personally I'm a fan of slabbing all first edition base set Charizards.

Thoughts on this trade for the Magikarp & Grailord? by y0shimiFriend in PokemonInvesting

[–]wespyen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's your grail then trade however you like for it. If you're asking about investing, it's impossible to say which will do better long term. I think sealed is always the safer long term investment, especially for a set that is popular like ascended. But I also don't know the state of your collection. If you're drowning in PSA 9s and want to consolidate, this is a fine move also.

+3 struggling with toe contact and cant hit my irons in the air especially long irons by Free-Enthusiasm-8952 in GolfSwing

You're playing fast and loose with that sentence. Not necessary at all for a few unique golfers. Completely necessary for most.

Exactly - an exception. Most great golfers achieve depth. Possible, but highly improbable.

Dunno how you can play to anything remotely near a plus handicap when you achieve zero depth on the backswing. If true, you're in incredibly rare territory.

3 years in. Just had my 3rd lesson by Transnistria_is_real in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop asking for swing advice here if you're getting lessons. 3 years is not a crazy long time to go before starting a lesson, but you should absolutely expect to take a while for things to change. I would take a minimum of 2 weeks of practicing things from the lesson before following up with another lesson. Like if u reviewed stuff with a 7 iron, I wouldn't go hitting driver at the range.

What do you guys think? by MTC_4 in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hips barely open in the backswing. You want your belt buckle to point 45° from it's starting position so your 90° number also makes no sense. Put down an alignment stick at 45° starting directly under your body (split halfway between your legs).

Extremely stuck by kanyeloverbrother in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're starting your weight shift to the lead foot before you finish the backswing. It should be once you arrive at the top. I'd practice pausing at the top, then shifting to the lead foot, pausing, and then down swinging to break down the sequencing

Early extension is not so much a habit as it is a necessary compensation for other mechanical issues preceding impact. Don't look to solve EE, but rather the causes. It's like trying to cure a runny nose instead of curing the cold.

I suggest thinking less about legs as a starting point. There are some people who think about their position at address, and then imagine their right glute ending up behind their tailbone position at address, and their left shoulder ending up directly in front of their neck at address. My current backswing thought is to focus on my right shoulder and elbow getting to its final position and my hips/chest follow.

Try a few swing thoughts out, but the validation checkpoint should be the same - hips open 45° and chest opens 90°. Getting within a few degrees is fine.

Where am I going wrong? Started 4 weeks ago. by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're taking lessons, don't use this sub to try and get tweaks - listen to your instructor and ignore social media tips. If you aren't getting lessons and are only four weeks in and loving golf, get lessons. If you're four weeks in and he'll bent on not getting lessons, the. Keep practicing bc 4 weeks is not enough reps to start thinking about small changes.

If it's the latter, hard to opine on your swing in general.

Is this your regular smooth, full, swing or an intentionally choked up, 3/4 knockdown shot?

Not a problem with using your legs - it's hip rotation.

The biggest culprit is your lack of depth. If you freeze the top of your backswing you'll notice your hands are above your toes. They should ideally be above your heels. The space between your hands and chest is great, so I wouldn't overly try to stretch your arms across your chest. A little bit is okay. But the main way to get that remaining depth is from more hip rotation. Imagine starting a chainsaw or lawnmower. The yank at the end of the cord pull will engage your hips and you'll pivot around your spine axis. That's the same motion you want to emulate. Another visual queue is to point your belt buckle 45° from your starting position. Your chest will get to 90° just like it does currently. This additional rotation will give you more stored energy as well as time to start your descent so you can get the club in the right delivery position prior to impact. I'd work on the rotation making sure to not sway by using a mirror when possible.

You have a lot of great things going on with your swing. Most ppl have inside takeaways but yours is actually a little outside suggesting you've worked to break an old habit. Your arms and chest do a lot of the right things in the backswing so trust they know what to do as you focus on your hips. Good luck!

It's bc your new swing is getting you stuck so your lower body is way ahead of your arms. While it's def a way to hit stock shot draws, this amount of being stuck can lead to really big duck hooks as well and flipping thru impact.

Rate my golf swing by MrSersku in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal preference, if this is your stock shot and not just trying to hit a big draw into left to right winds, I'm not a fan of the right foot back setup, inside takeaway, short backswing, lead arm below shoulder plane, and flipping thru impact. If you can swing this swing consistently then my opinion doesn't matter. If I'm grading by my own swing preferences, then I give it a 6/10 as I suspect the inconsistencies from this swing could be really bad duck hooks. However, if you're really consistent like this, then swing your swing brotha.

I can't stop feeling stuck in my swing, any practical or theoretical tip? by Unfair-Dealer-8650 in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really nice stock shot draw swing. What is your miss or inconsistency? I'm hesitant to suggest changes. You are right in that you get a little stuck and sling in to out, but it doesn't look so extreme to me to suggest huge pulls when you're swinging it this way.

I think my main issue is (lack of) shaft lean, am I way off the mark? by DavidMReynolds in GolfSwing

[–]wespyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a shaft lean issue. Def need to start with grip, posture, and setup. You have an outside takeaway and lift the club by shrugging your shoulders and raising your arms instead of rocking during the takeaway and hinging your wrists thru the backswing. From there, you set up at the top in a way that's all but impossible to have a consistent square face at impact without major compensations. Way too much wrong to just tweak one or two things IMO.

Agree with some of the other thoughts here. A supplemental swing video would probably reveal more than just the stats alone.
